Zeldin: NYPD Cops ‘Pissed Off’ Over PBA’s $25K Donation to Hochul

Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin said Saturday that he’s gotten an earful from NYPD cops who are furious that their union donated $25,000 to Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul’s campaign — while not giving the tough-on-crime candidate a cent in the tight race.

“We have heard from a lot of NYPD officers who are pissed off [after] learning that their money went to Kathy Hochul, who is pandering to these pro-criminal allies in the state Legislature,” the Long Island congressman told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto.

Zeldin had been questioned about a Post report on the controversial donation made by the New York City Police Benevolent Association.

I was a flight attendant and our union was the AFL-CIO. They donated heavily to democrats and I don’t remember any going to any Republican.

I was also a lobbyist for the union and was one of the very few Republicans so I was sent to Jesse Helms office and a few other (this was back in the late 80s/early 90’s) Republican representatives and senators. IIRC, the democrat congressmen were lobbied heavily but very few Republicans were lobbied.

The unions have always been left leaning. But, they should have to answer why their union is donating to the people who want to defund the police which means taking away resources which COULD LEAD TO THE DEATH OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS.

I was a union member for decades. So please permit me to explain how this works.

The union president picks a slate of committee members. This slate always wins, by methods that would make Stalin blush. Then this committee makes all the decisions as to who the union endorses, and as to how much money is sent to each candidate.

The rank-and-file have no say in who the union endorses, and no say in where the money goes. There is no vote. It’s all done by that slate committee behind closed doors.

Unions preach democracy. But they operate like fascists.

It happens all the time. They take the Union Dues out of your paycheck every two weeks, but the Union Heads endorse whoever they want. I’m assuming you can still request a refund of your part of the campaign donation that went to a candidate you don’t support. It used to be that way anyway. Every police officer who is upset over this donation, should file the proper form to be reimbursed their share of the donation.

Back in the late ‘70s and most of the 80’s I was in The Laborers International Union AFL-CIO and at the time it was described by the Justice Department as the most Mafia infiltrated and corrupted labor union in America.
