The official story about David Depape includes these details — he grew up in B.C. Canada, in Powell River (on the coast) and later in Armstrong (a small town in the north Okanagan valley) where he attended high school. Some time around 2008 he went to Hawaii and met a woman (”Gypsy” Taub) with whom he had a romantic encounter, they went to her home in Berkeley and the pair led various nudist demonstrations (about what I am not sure, but a California state senator recalls the pair at these demonstrations) ... Later Taub married a different man in 2012, even though Depape remained close and served as a father figure to their two kids.
The official story (which means I looked on wikipedia) includes such nuggets as this Depape character claiming to be Jesus Christ at some point, and holding any number of views that increasingly began to include “far right” views by 2020. He supposedly thought the COVID vaccines were dangerous, that the 2020 election was fraudulent, and that Ukraine was not as it seemed, climate change was not real, etc.
I have no way to verify whether the guy ever held any of those views but they are unusual for somebody who moved in leftist political circles as recently as ten years ago (other than the Jesus Christ claims, those tend to be more the hallmarks of messianic pretenders who are keen to start a cult group attended by gullible females).
Whatever the truth of any of those claims, it seems possible that Depape was a partly absent-minded illegal immigrant, in the world before about 2015, there was a concept of just drifting around from one country to another, with no real focus on trying to emigrate there illegally, you might just drift off somewhere else later. Hemingway in Spain sort of a deal. Not trying to excuse this in any way, but I don’t think very many Canadians plan or execute illegal immigration schemes, they tend to visit the U.S. to the maximum extent of the legal arrangements if they like the idea of spending time in America. If I had more money and a vaccine certificate, I might be doing that myself, but the rules say less than six months a year, no employment, just vacation at one’s own expense with health care insurance to cover any problems that cannot be handled by a swift return to Canada. Depape likely did none of the above, just somehow found himself in Hawaii.
As to all the other details, we have only the word of leftists, so I take it all with a giant grain of salt, also would make this point, if the guy was nuts as alleged, and did come around to hold all these views (some of which we might find agreeable), so what, a schizophrenic normally processes things differently, but they do process and can come up with some valid thoughts among others that are invalid.
If you were in Munich in 1938 and walking down a sidewalk, and Adolf Hitler was driving by in his limousine, and leaned out the window to yell, “Achtung, a piano is about to fall on your head!” would you
(a) look up, verify his warning, and run or
(b) say, “Hey are you not Adolf Hitler, I’m not listening to some Nazi tyrant.”
Maybe it’s the same with David Depape.
FOX News first reported this fact last Friday. The other news outlets have chosen to ignore it.
