Driving up prices are supply troubles with natural gas, used in New England’s gas distribution and electric systems.
November is here, and so are higher utility rates for Massachusetts customers.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities has approved suppliers’ new gas and electric rates, WCVB reported, with bills expected to rise after new rates went into effect Tuesday.
National Grid previously warned residential heating customers that they could see their bills increase 22% or 24% from last winter, depending on whether they fall under Boston Gas or Colonial Gas.
Massachusetts’ other major utility company, Eversource, similarly predicted that average residential customers will face increases of approximately 25% or 38% for the former Columbia Gas and NSTAR Gas territories, respectively.
National Grid’s electricity customers will see about a 64% increase in their monthly bills starting Nov. 1, the company said in September. Eversource’s proposed electricity rate changes wouldn’t take effect until Jan. 1, if approved.

Propane is down from last year in my area, but climbing a bit. (Rocky mtn. Colorado)
Handy site to check heating oil, too.

The voters in Moronistan always vote Democrat. They voted for this. Let them freeze.
Exactly. I don’t know what I’d do without some pimple telling me what I need to know.
Green policy is about saving the planetvthe same way CoupFlu policy is about protecting public health.
This is really about Deep State keeping the middle class stoned, stupid, and poor.

Most everyone I know in MA stopped heating with electricity decades ago.
I guess some of the new efficient heat pumps are electric. My gas bill (an average for 12 months) just reset. And it went down $14.
A caller read the PDF carefully. It's more like a 295% increase.
BOHICA...
Add to this the price of heating oil (close to 300% higher than last year) and you’re gonna have a lot of people choosing between heating and eating.
“If they just bought electric heaters this wouldn’t be a problem.. hehehehe” - Idiot Energy Secretary
What has that idiot done to produce a single joule of energy? Does she know what a joule is?
Propane. Was 89 cents a gallon pre Chomo Joe. Just two weeks ago was $2.55. This morning. 3.99 a gallon. Diesel now over $6 again. And we’re just getting started. I am off grid and have no choice but to use propane. So this hurts. But I am just a bitter clinger who doesn’t realize just how good Biden’s policies have been for me. Besides, it’s Putin’s fault.
YAY BIDEN!!!
Propane went up a dollar last week here. The new train cars came to the supplier. They are getting ready for the winter deliveries.
Nobody is going to “freeze” because the electric utilities have a wide variety of “deferred payment plans” where they will not shut off customers during the winter.
What will happen is that the utilities will have to borrow all the cash (they don’t get from customers) at high interest rates—which will then flow back to higher electric rates for everyone down the road.
Small business is going to get hit very hard—they will have to pay the skyrocketing electric bills and many will have to shut their doors if they cannot afford them (along with increased lease costs discussed in another thread).
I know. I live there.
I’ll won’t be in Mass for the winter. I won’t see the increase for some time.
