Our old junk is smashing the pathetic Russian army to pieces. It’s staggering to read what ordnance we have destroyed in the last decade. Tens of thousands of MLRS rockets, etc. And of course all the stuff abandoned in Afghanistan. Had Ukraine had that gear they would have wiped the floor with Putin’s fake army months ago.

The destruction of the Russian military without the loss of a single U.S. soldier is easily worth a fraction of what we normally spend on our own defense budget each year.

For those who want the burden of NATO reduced, this is perfect. The rest of NATO is increasing their defense budgets in response to Russian aggression, and the Russian military itself will be far less capable of aggression by the time this war is over. That will enable us to reduce our presence in Europe, and let the Europeans handle more of that responsibility.

At the same time, we will have strengthened our position to build a coalition should China, Iran, or anyone else decide that military expansion is a good thing. Allies will have seen us stand up to Russia, seen how much superior our military equipment is, and be more inclined to join us in collective defense.

That's a lot to gain for simply providing weapons to Ukraine.
