RE: a change election in 2024, i.e. let’s throw the bums out. Assuming that’s the general dynamic next year as the race gets underway, it might be to the GOP’s advantage not to be in the line of fire of angry voters.

Nope.
Voters this election, this week, had the chance to say I am sick of high gas prices, being forced to buy an electric car, paying sky high inflation for retail merchandise and food, facing illegals and gang members moved next door, knowing the border is wide open, being on the brink of nuclear war and knowing the President’s policies are ruining America. So I’m voting GOP.
They didn’t.
They acquiesced and were proud to say they voted against Republicans.
By this reasoning 2024 looks like status quo.
