Trump may have been a factor, but certainly not the only one.
I just saw a chart comparing the spending of the two parties on their candidates. The Dem spending per candidate ranged from 3x as much to 10x as much.
That seems to be typical of the differences in spending habits between Dems and Conservative Pubs.
