WASHINGTON – The medical guidance was direct.
Eleven-year-old Emma Basques had identified as a girl since toddlerhood. Now, as she worried about male puberty starting, a Phoenix paediatrician advised: Take a drug to stop it.
At 13, Jacy Chavira felt increasingly uncomfortable with her maturing body and was beginning to believe she was a boy. Use the drug, her endocrinologist in Southern California recommended, and puberty would be suspended.
An 11-year-old in New York with deepening depression expressed a desire to no longer be a girl. A therapist told the family the drug was the preteen’s best option, and a local doctor agreed.
“‘Puberty blockers really help kids like this,’” the child’s mother recalled the therapist saying. “It was presented as a tourniquet that would stop the haemorrhaging.”
As the number of adolescents who identify as transgender grows, drugs known as puberty blockers have become the first line of intervention for the youngest ones seeking medical treatment.
Their use is typically framed as a safe – and reversible – way to buy time to weigh a medical transition and avoid the anguish of growing into a body that feels wrong.
Transgender adolescents suffer from disproportionately high rates of depression and other mental health issues. Studies show that the drugs have eased some patients’ gender dysphoria – a distress over the mismatch of their birth sex and gender identity.
“Anxiety drains away,” said Dr Norman Spack, who pioneered the use of puberty blockers for trans youths in the United States and is one of many physicians who believe the drugs can be life-saving. “You can see these kids being so relieved.”

Gender dysphoria is a real condition, but, how is it, that powers that be, have decided that the solution to such an issue is hormone shots and surgeries? And that such treatments need to be administered at such young ages?

Well, I bet if you give clinically depressed people a bunch of cocaine their mood would improve too. But we don’t do that because it would cause more harm than good.
I wonder how many of these trans kids are simply the waste product of an attention seeking mother who hitches up to the latest fad? Many of these moms are sought out to appear on TV. They get requests to be interviewed by local and national media. Are they enjoying the adoration of a fawning press, and too caught up in their own fantasy world to appreciate the real harm they do their own child? Perhaps the real therapy needs to be directed at other than the confused children.
Yes and no.
Parents aren’t doctors and when their child is facing a health problem tend to view doctors as godlike figure who will make their child better if they follow the doctor’s advice.
And I’m not even talking about gender blocking drugs.
Reinforcing childish fantasies to become childhood mental illness doe not take doctors. Though it may be advanced by trusting Psycho the Rapists.

And, yeah, it’s a real thing and the media is making it worse by feeding into it.
I’m a fence either on this one.
I believe “better living through chemicals” have f’ed the natural hormones in our bodies. Some say it’s the estrogen in women’s birth control pills that gets in the water when they urinate.
I don’t know but cutting up healthy bodies or poisoning them with more pills is not the answer.
