Winter rang, and more snow is on the way for the Rockies (Global Warming at Work)
AccuWeather | Nov. 16, 2022 | Nicole LoBiondo

Snow is on tap for places such as Denver as the week progresses, but the Arctic cold that will accompany the winter precipitation is expected to be even more noteworthy.

The cold might end up being even more notable than the snow itself, according to AccuWeather forecasters. Many locales could challenge record overnight lows and record low afternoon high temperatures late this week as Arctic air spills in from Canada.

High temperatures from Idaho to northern Texas will be more reminiscent of overnight lows for this time of year as the mercury may reach only the teens to the upper 20s Friday afternoon. For example, Colorado Springs is forecast to record a high of only 18 degrees on Friday. The long-standing lowest maximum temperature for the date sits at 21 degrees and was set well over a century ago in 1903.

It's COLD up here in North Idaho. If only we had taxed ourselves trillions and trillions more, this wouldn't be happening.

Wait! The taxes cure warming, not cold. Silly me. I get so confused on the climate science stuff.

What's the cure for bitter cold?

Pocatello is expecting +2F in the morning. The dewpoint at 2336 is +5F, so that forecast seems attainable. Idaho Falls is slated for -2F. Dewpoint currently +3F.

I’m here in SE Idaho, if this brings excellent snow pack to our mountains good. Our water storage situation is drained. We need a good wet winter. If it’s cold we have to take? Ok just give us the moisture while you’re at it. IMO. Currently it’s 12 degrees F. Sucks but I’ve seen 34 below here before. Learn it, love it, live it.

Here in Seattle we have been cooler than normal for about two weeks, often with clear blue skies, which is very unusual for late Fall.

We have also been in a moderate drought for the last six months.

This is our third La Nina (Pacific Ocean cools) winter in a row, which is very unusual.

The weather, however, is not unusual for La Nina - cooler than normal and less rain than normal.

-10 right now in the mountains of Montana. Hope this cold November drives some of the non-natives to back where they came from.

Elect Trump, which is what voters paying 40% more for heating bills are going to be thinking.

Is 34 below your winter’s coldest? I lived in ND. Coldest -80, not counting wind chill.

No but I was working that night and trying to get around. Propane powered equipment wouldn’t operate. The propane wouldn’t vaporize fast enough. I’m not talking wind chill. This was still temps. It wasn’t a record but I earned my pay that night. Regards. 🙂

Looks like not much moisture in this cold snap, unfortunately.

Clear cloudless sky today over here near Coeur d’Alene. I should go out to look for Leonid meteors, but it’s too cold.

What mountains are you in? We were in Missoula last week and had a couple of fantastic dinners in town.

I’m old enough to remember when only true temp was reported. None of this “wind chill” nonsense.
