Qatar bans kosher food, Jewish prayer at World Cup

Authorities in the Arab Gulf state of Qatar are prohibiting Jewish visitors from purchasing cooked kosher food or organizing prayer groups during their stay in the country for the World Cup, leading Jewish groups to accuse Doha of reneging on its promise to protect the religious rights of sports fans during the World Cup.

Qatar has no diplomatic relations with Israel, but as a condition of its hosting the World Cup, FIFA mandated that Qatar not bar fans based on their nationality.

With thousands of Israelis expected to travel to Doha for the games, Qatar agreed to permit Israel to operate a temporary consular services office for the duration of the World Cup.

In addition, Jewish groups say they received a commitment from Doha that Jewish religious needs would not be interfered with during the World Cup, including the sale of kosher food and organizing of Jewish prayer services.

On Sunday, however, multiple Jewish organizations accused Qatar of breaking its promise, saying that local officials have banned the sale of cooked kosher food and organizing of Jewish prayer services in public.

Such diversity over there like you wouldn’t believe.

Funny that kosher rules (kashrut) and Muslim halal food rules state that no utensils, spoons, forks, cutting boards, counters or anything else that came into contact with pork, even if washed later, can be used for allowable food preparation. Agree with each other on that.

Is ham and bacon allowed in Israel? That’s the real question, both religions ban pork products.

There are so many reasons a Westerner would not go to Qatar.
Why are they holding the World Cup there?
Did no other big country wish to host it?
The Olympics may already be at that point.

“Is ham and bacon allowed in Israel? “

Yes, but with a very limited market in secularist regions.

I don’t really care. Sports are not my thing, and going to Islamic countries for anything at all is not worth it.

So how about everyone just stays away and let them have no fans to rule over?

And I bet the Jewish religion has some sort of exemption or penance for missing the proper diet for a couple of days due to unavailability.

Come to think of it, how did jewish GI’s handle US military service?
Sure, I expect they may have Kosher meals available now, but the WW’s, ‘Nam?

Who would really want to go to China for the winter Olympics? Even the athletes were getting screwed with. Whatever you want to say about Nazi Germany, they did not mess with the athletes, even Jesse Owen. They believed in fair play at least that far. China? Not so much.

If this is how they behave when all eyes are onto them, imagine what they do to migrant workers when no body sees...

Also banned (at the last moment) is alcohol. World Cup sponsor Budweiser is pissed. And temps are in the 90s. Good job, FIFA...select a Muzzie hellhole again.

I think the most horrific thing I heard about the slavery that Qatar practices, asides from the 6,000 fatalities during construction for the World Cup... was about giving iced water which the Nepalese migrants, working in the heat, complained couldn’t be consumed...all to be stingy on the water.. by the supremacist Arabs.

Please don't get mad at me, but I lived in a private college dorm at a major midwestern university in the early 80's, and it was 70 percent Jewish kids from Long Island, and they ate the bacon like no tomarrow.

Why is it there? Because of the money that they bribed FIFA officials.

I’m just dying of curiosity as to the boardroom conversations where the managers of Budweiser elect to sponsor the World Cup that ends up in a country that prohibits alcohol. It’s like a bad SNL skit.
