The Whig Party took that name because they were opposed to King Andrew I (Andrew Jackson), just like the Whigs of the American Revolution had been opposed to King George III.

The term Whig goes back to 17th-century England where it was used of the supporters of Parliament against the Stuart kings (it was originally a term referring to Scottish bandits, just as Tories were originally Irish bandits).

Nice factoid.

Here's one for you. America had a government before the current Constitution was enacted.
Articles of Confederation

ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION

While the Declaration of Independence was under consideration in the Continental Congress, and before it was finally agreed upon, measures were taken for the establishment of a constitutional form of government Thus a Constitutional Republic was created, not a democracy.

Even back then they knew...

ARTICLE V. (in part)
Freedom of speech and debate in Congress shall not be impeached or questioned in any Court, or place out of Congress...
Two things, not one.

Don't forget this...Lee Resolution (1776)
After fighting broke out in Massachusetts in the spring of 1775, the King declared the colonists "in a state of open and avowed rebellion." For the first time, many colonists began to seriously consider cutting ties with Britain.

Oddly similar to today...Jim Jordan: Joe Biden ‘Excited’ About ‘Going After Parents’ with ‘Domestic Terrorism’ Letter, ‘All About Intimidation’

“We know from the NSBA-commissioned report that the White House did not object to or otherwise discourage the NSBA from asking the President to use the Patriot Act and domestic terrorism statutes against America’s parents—a request of which the President said he was ‘appreciative,’” the letter continued.

*46 hasn't gone full Mad George, but he isn't far behind.
He's got the mad part down well anyway.

Or, perhaps, Fancy Nancy and her J6 group would be more akin to stating Americans are "in a state of open and avowed rebellion."

JMO, YMMV
