An experimental Alzheimer's disease drug from Eisai and Biogen slowed cognitive decline in a closely watched trial but may carry a risk of dangerous side effects for certain patients, according to new data presented on Tuesday (Nov 29).
The drug, lecanemab, was associated with a type of brain swelling in 12.6 per cent of trial patients, a side effect previously seen with similar drugs. Fourteen per cent of patients had microhemorrhages in the brain - a symptom linked to two recent deaths of people receiving lecanemab in a follow-on study - and five patients suffered macrohemorrhages.
The companies said in September that the 18-month trial, which enrolled nearly 1,800 participants with early-stage Alzheimer's, found that treatment with lecanemab reduced the rate of decline on a clinical dementia scale (CDR-SB) by 27 per cent compared to a placebo.

In the self checkout at Walmart yesterday, they had a stack of free dementia pamphlets.
I forgot to pick one up.
These modified antibody biologic drugs make me think of all chemotherapy drugs - the treatment is worse than the disease. They ALL have well-documented risk of severe side effects including lymphoma, brain infections, and death. The micro-hemorrhages of the brain yield exactly the same result as Vascular Dementia. Not a nickels worth of difference between losing your mind to Alzheimers or Vascular dementia. In both cases, the brain dies from multiple assaults and the end result is you body dies - it’s a merely a matter of how long it takes to get there. Seriously, these MAB drugs are as bad as the chemo drugs given for terminal cancer. They might buy a person a little more time to watch your quality of life circle the drain.
Wonder what Deep State is using on the POTATUS...
That’s news to me. I’ve been stage 4 renal cancer for 8 years and have been on Votrient, Opdivo and Cabometyx. ….. as well as two rounds of radiation.
I work up to 72 hours a week in the Emergency Room when I choose to and I’ve been blessed to have the time to be a grandfather, see weddings, graduations, play guitar, write, laugh, cry, and travel.
your mileage may differ and past results are no guarantee of future returns, but educate yourself before spouting off about meds that may prolong someone’s life.
I work because I love what I do and (in my opinion) a man needs to be busy. I know I’m going to die of this cancer and “Zeke” (the name one of my daughters gave to my cancer) will likely be the cause…. but “f$&k Zeke and cancer”, I’m choosing to fight.
