Today's dope is 25 - 35 times more potent than in the 70's. Think about that.

(Weed THC content 1970 = 1%. Weed THC content now = 25-35%)

I hear that statistic or similar tossed about on every pot thread and say it's bullshit. There was skunky stony indica way back then.

“Today’s dope is 25 - 35 times more potent than in the 70’s. Think about that.”

Well, I’m doubting that all pot was that weak back in the day.

Friend and I walked around the block circa 1972 and smoked a smaller sized joint, probably 3 or 4 hits apiece. Got back to the beach rental house where a party was starting, and I experienced what is now referred to as couch lock. I couldn’t move and couldn’t even speak. While the pot may not have been as potent as today’s stuff, that was some killer weed (as the cool kids used to say).

On a side note, a cop walked into the living room unannounced, someone on the block had seen my friend and myself smoking and called the police. A neighbor later told us the cop had searched all the cars along the block before coming into the house (cars were all unlocked, common in those days). He didn’t find anything in the cars, and left the house pretty quickly when he didn’t see anyone doing any drugs. And if you’re thinking the cop violated our civil rights, you weren’t present back then, long haired hippies didn’t have rights and everyone, including hippies, knew that.

Back in the 70s, a friend of my brother’s made a batch of brownies with a healthy dose of pot integrated into the recipe. I ate ONE PIECE and I remember very little of that night…

Sure, and in the 70s people rolled big fat joints of that ditch weed to get high. Now they take one or two hits off a hitter or vape pen and get about the same effect.

If I went around saying “Whiskey has 12 times the alcohol content of the average domestic beer” it would sound pretty dangerous too if everyone didn’t already know that drinkers don’t consume the same amount of whiskey as they do beer.
