Cold weather could cause French power cuts next week

PARIS (Reuters) - Cold weather could lead to power cuts in France on Monday as delays to the restart of nuclear power following repair work leave supply lagging demand, analysts said.

Nuclear power supply had been expected to reach around 40 gigawatts (GW) this week, but operator EDF's delay in restarting reactors meant it rose to only around 35 GW, leaving France more reliant on imports and gas-fired production.

Refinitiv analyst Nathalie Gerl said the situation as a cold spell grips northwestern Europe this weekend and next week would be "much more critical" but for efforts to curb demand, especially by big industrial consumers.

There was still a risk of a shortfall just on Monday, she said.

"If we remain at 35 GW, next week Monday could become quite tight: we expect the demand at otherwise seasonally normal levels, but 35 GW of nuclear would be too low to meet a possible demand peak at 73 GW," Gerl said.

Hopefully the French will learn to abandon the green revolution. Not that there’s anything wrong with nuclear power.

I think their issue is they currently have numerous reactors down for repair/upgrades.

I love nuclear power from a physical science perspective. I'm just afraid of nuclear power losing the political science battles. It seems too easy for the Dims to one day change their minds yet again about nuclear and use fearmongering to shut it down "because nuclear is unsafe doncha' know".

They've already change their minds with natural gas. It wasn't too long ago that they made power companies shut down coal plants and replace them with "clean burning natural gas" plants. Now they are as against natural gas as they are coal. Nuclear will be no different except that when the Dims change their minds about nuclear and threaten to shut it down, they'll have the scare of nuclear radiation and such to excuse it.

France really isn’t a country anymore, just an economic zone for the WEF. Enjoy!

As a side note, snow coverage in the Northern Hemisphere is at the highest level ever recorded. I’m assuming the highest ever recorded probably means since weather satellites came into widespread use. This likely means a very cold winter.

In case you’re wondering how this record amount of snow is possible with global warming, scientests have already provided an answer. The massive amount of snow is due to global warming (seriously).

The liberals can’t even decide on paper or plastic bags. Someone could invent a technology that transforms the most dangerous chemical in the known universe, carbon dioxide, in to unlimited power and they would block it saying it “harms BIPOC and LGBTQETF communities disproportionately.”

"Carbon" and "carbon dioxide" always comes up when I'm charging my EV on the road and meeting other EV owners during the 10-15 minutes it takes to charge. They always assume I'm part of their warmageddon cult and thank me for doing my part in lowering my carbon footprint or whatever. One of my favorite responses to them goes something like this:

If you're right that carbon dioxide is a pollutant, and you're also right that we need lots and lots more trees... you might be a Democrat. LOL

At least the idiots haven't sanctioned Russian nuclear energy exports yet.

Major source of fuel for the French reactors, apparently.

The goal is to throttle the population of the global Elites' Pleasure Planet back to a manageable number.

The Elites, their tech guys, gunthugs, farmers, some general laborers and a stable of hot Instagram model types.

Where do you get your gas? Where do you get your imports?

“If you’re right that carbon dioxide is a pollutant....”

Mankind constantly pollutes the atmosphere by exhaling. There will come a time when we must draw lots to determine who can stay on this planet and who must go in order to minimize CO2 expulsion. Arm yourself if you want to live.
