Germany seeks 1-year ban on energy price hikes: report
Deutsche Welle ^ | December 3, 2022

The German government wants to stop energy companies from increasing electricity and gas prices in 2023, Bild newspaper reported Saturday, citing draft legislation.

The government has already ordered a cap on energy prices for next year to quell the energy crisis that threatens household budgets and the viability of many businesses.

What is the government planning?

A draft law on next year's energy price brake, which was announced by Berlin last month, will also force utility companies to justify any increase in price, for example, extreme volatility in financial markets, Bild reported.

Otherwise, they would be banned from increasing prices in 2023.

The measure, if passed, would mean that hundreds of price increases already announced by energy firms for next year would have to be reversed.

If this works why not just do it for everything. Food, fuel , cars .,,you name it. Just put a cap on the price ! It’s a great idea

So we are funding a second European pipeline war.. Syria was the first, so they can do this. Lol
If you haven’t been to Europe then it’s hard to grasp while a tiny “nation” should even be considered credible. Iirc, they are approximately the size of Oregon.
A single US state.
My son is in the Netherlands, for good it seems, but i just can’t bring myself to go back. Praying he changes his mind.
But, I guess it’s safer than San Fran nancy.

Exactly my first thought! And Germany of all countries seemed to have some immunity from economic magic thinking. I guess they are going to get a booster shot.

Reality vs fake climate change.

When you punish energy producers and reward scammers you end up freezing in the winter.

It will also create shortages like none seen to date. Fools indeed. Got to give it to those Germans though, they know how to embrace the suck!

Price controls inevitably lead to shortages. These price controls will simply mean Germans will be shivering in their darkened homes this winter.

Right, just legislate the price on something you have to import. And when the supply dries up, Germans can create cryogenic suspended animation tech to make it through their winters or breed with bears and hibernate. Or they can do this:

If I am an electricity provider, I will not sell you electricity if I do not make a fair profit. If I sell gasoline, food, cell phones etc. I will not sell them unless I make a fair profit. Econ 101!
