I agree. My whole life I heard the soap box, ballot box, cartridge box mantra, and in the end we submitted to the authoritarians and we’ll suffer the same multi-decade decline that they suffered in the Soviet Union and in present day China. Very sad end to a great Republic.

I've often wondered why a people would subject themselves to corrupt governments, like the East Germans, or so many Middle east civilians, etc. I way why don't they rise up.
