EU agrees to bans imports of products that drive deforestation

The European Union reached an agreement Tuesday to ban the import of products including coffee, cocoa and soy in cases where they are deemed to contribute to deforestation.

The draft law, which aims to ensure "deforestation-free supply chains" for the 27-nation EU, was hailed by environmental groups as "groundbreaking".

It requires companies importing into the EU to guarantee products are not produced on land that suffered deforestation after December 31, 2020, and that they comply with all laws of the source country.

The scope encompasses palm oil, cattle, soy, coffee, cocoa, timber and rubber as well as derived products such as beef, furniture and chocolate.

Illegal production has spurred massive deforestation in countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Mexico and Guatemala.

Pascal Canfin, chairman of the European Parliament's environment committee, hailed the agreement, and how its impact would feed through to everyday items Europeans consume.

"It's the coffee we have for breakfast, the chocolate we eat, the coal in our barbecues, the paper in our books. This is radical," he said.

That should go over really well with the hoi polloi.

Meanwhile, I am sure the elites will continue to consume their fair share.

Lol, not even funny, but this is insanity. Two things are going to happen for us here. Either prices will go out of sight, or they will drop like a rock.

But this is coming here next...

Virtue signaling as a nation state policy. What could go wrong?

I think this ends with a Bastile Day.

Meanwhile, they’re importing US energy in record amounts.

This isn’t really about saving the planet, is it...

By outlawing deforestation, the EU is demanding it’s own depopulation.

With “deforestation” meaning anything that competes with whomever gives them money.

It’s also stupid. There are far more forests in Europe and the USA now than there were 100, 200, 300 years ago.

Why? Because oil and gas created a separate fuel source than wood that was burned (and which had exponentially higher greenhouse output).

Illegal production has spurred massive deforestation..

Illegal? Illegal where? What laws were broken that governments were incapable to enforce punishment?

No farms, no energy, and no imports. The EU is establishing a curious model for economic growth.

Meanwhile, they deforest huge swaths of Scandinavian woodlands in order to built wind farms that EXPORT the energy to Germany.

Some of the Scandinavian folks who have you tube channels have spoken about this - some of them were liberal tree huggers and this was a real eye opener for them.

“The EU is establishing a curious model for economic growth.”

They are trying to destroy the producers and whole nations by banning the demand. In turn they will mess it up for everyone globally. Which is of course the plan behind it. These commodities will become unavailable for everyone world wide as the end result. We already have a historic example of this with the Fur trade. This will go the same way.
