HORNBROOK, Calif. (AP) — Tribal, state and federal officials on Thursday cheered a plan for the largest dam removal in U.S. history along the Klamath River near the California-Oregon line as a major step toward restoring a once-thriving watershed that tribal communities have long relied on.
“Clean water, healthy forests and fertile land made the Klamath River Basin and its surrounding watershed a home to tribal communities, productive agriculture, and a place where abundant populations of migratory birds, suckers, salmon and other fish could thrive,” U.S. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland said.
The removal of four dams along the river will mark the largest dam demolition in U.S. history. Work is expected to begin next year and be completed by 2024. It will open up hundreds of miles of habitat for salmon, a fish that holds cultural and dietary significance for tribes. The river has been dammed for more than a century.
Tribal leaders spoke about the decades-long fight to remove the dams and restore the river’s ability to flow freely, allowing salmon and other species to thrive.
“Our children get to be able to walk the river banks post-dam removal,” said Chairman Joe James of the Yurok Tribe. “We’ll tell them about the history.”
The new federal money Haaland announced will go toward a study of the survival and migration rate of juvenile salmonid, an ecological flow assessment and project on the Trinity River in California and restoration of the Upper Williamson River in southern Oregon.

Indigenies cheering the loss of their government jobs. LOL.
It’s going to be a muddy mess.
They’re going to regret this.
Never heard of this. Wasn’t keeping up with the dam thing.
Our fave vacation…. All the area around Klamath. Glad we have pictures!
Is Hydro Power there ending?
Good luck with the NGD suckkas...
I suspect fish ladders could have been put in place, allowing the salmon and others to travel upstream.
Luddites
What will they do when the spring and fall floods along the river start happening again?
How about the lost salmon eggs that haven’t hatched when the dams are removed? How is that going to affect the salmon runs and how long will it take to recover?
Where are they going to replace the loss of electricity when the dams come down?
How will they irrigate the farm land that depends on the water from the dams?
Just a few questions.
“Pacific Power owns and operates seven hydroelectric projects on the Klamath. The dams provide enough power to supply the energy needs of 70,000 households. They were built by the California Oregon Power Company, a predecessor to Pacific Power, that served Southern Oregon and Northern California.”

“Is Hydro Power there ending?”
That is also my question.
iirc, they were in place and worked just fine.
#1 They just removed useful hydro electric generating capacity
#2 The reservoirs created by the dams were used by farmers to irrigate crops
#3 The Indians will go in with large power boats to rape the salmon harvest. They don’t use canoes anymore. They’ll probably hire Mexicans to do this grunt work, Injuns will sit on their asses and get huge checks. Think of this as an Indian Salmon Casino.
For the time being, hydro-electric power is being reduced by about half. All the dams are not planned to be removed (for now).
Fish ladders don’t work very well.
None of this will help the salmon population recover unless the Bidens stop their Chinese friends from poaching all the salmon within our fisheries and near shore areas.
Ping.

I get the impression that the enviro extremists forbid such questions from being asked. As time goes on, anyone who has the audacity to ask such questions will be sent to reeducation camp, or worse.
“...restoring a once-thriving watershed that tribal communities have long relied on...”
BS.
They rely on Uncle Sugar’s weekly checks, EBT cards and lots of alcohol & dope.
Indians are the biggest BS artists around. Only libs fall for this rubbish. This conman sounds like Al Sharpton.
