It’s going to be a muddy mess.
Only seventeen million yards of sediment behind Iron Gate.
That’s enough to cover I5 4 lanes plus median and shoulders
between Oregon and Mexico with a foot of sediment. That will flush downriver and take years. It won’t help fish, it’ll kill them. All.
Well, ya can’t fix STUPID!
Why do they need dams during draughts or floods?
I am not against dam removal if they replace the lost with nuclear or coal/oil/natural gas. Otherwise it is just killing American prosperity for virtue signaling.
Sediment isn’t the only issue, think of all the heavy metals that have been building up behind the dams that will be set free.
Electricity producing dams probably.
Electricity producing dams probably.
This will destroy countless private property, including my son’s. My family has finally lost everything to the system.
From their Great White Father in Washington DC.
Q1) What will they do when the spring and fall floods along the river start happening again?
A1) Nothing
Q2) How about the lost salmon eggs that haven’t hatched when the dams are removed?
A2) Not important.
Q3) How is that going to affect the salmon runs and how long will it take to recover?
A3) See A2; decades, if ever.
Q4) Where are they going to replace the loss of electricity when the dams come down?
A4) Windmills, solar panels and wishful thinking.
Q5) How will they irrigate the farm land that depends on the water from the dams?
A5) Since there are only a few, if any of the original farmers left, with the majority of the farms now hobby farms purchased through elaborate schemes by American Rivers and The Nature Conservancy for their members at fire sale prices back in 2000, the remainder of the original farmers will sell to one of those NGOs above for chicken feed, the NGOs in turn will sell a portion to the Feds to cover their purchase price, then sell the remainder to more members as hobby farms.
I know because I was present at the start of this Klamath Valley mess back in the fall of 2000.
The area started drying up early in the last century. My parents told me of getting into rowboats and going to the cliffs where there were Native art and writings. Not they are accessible only by walking and climbing. The water is just going away, like all over the Southwestern US. It is a cycle, now it will disappear faster.
WA state lifer here. I remember when the Boldt decision came down and when it was enforced. I still have the fishing pole with which my MIL caught a 68 lb salmon in the Hood Canal close to the Dosewallips delta. Now you are lucky to get a factory farmed fish. The so called original stock, are small and you must release them for the tribal netters.
I have witnessed a pickup bed full of salmon sitting and rotting in front of taverns. That is how they revere their tribal rights and nature. They net everything, then thrown out the little ones as they head in from fishing, so you can follow them and see the dead. The best part is, non tribal members fund the process of keeping the salmon runs going, yet get no benefit.
If you drive by the reservations, they have old, older and oldest cars and boats in the grass growing around them. They do not value their property, because they will get new ones. The Tribal land is held in common, so nobody cares about the yards as the only thing they own is the structure.
Other than that, they are a fine example of conservation.
Tule Lake is home to what could be billions of birds, will it now be drained?
The governor of WA is “studying” the removal of dams on the Columbia and the Snake. For mommy erf. In the green new deal BS, hydroelectric is not considered renewable...believe it or not.
