Actually, you should read Trump's tweet instead of relying on a headline. Trump's primary complaint was about the "Merchant of Death being released. Trump did refer to Whelan as a former Marine, but so what.

I won’t stop being embarrassed by republicans and conservatives. Because my comment was in general and applies outside of DJT. The amount of politicians on the national stage is embarrassing, trying to look morally superior with their Whelan arguments not to mention the embarrassing amount of popular conservative pundits on social media or regular media making the stupid Whelan argument.
But since the article is about Trump and he “barely mentioned” Whelan, let’s see what that gets us: Whelan’s family is starting to speak up and against Trump. Boy that’s gonna be REAL good press.

What kind of a deal is it to swap Brittney Griner, a basketball player who openly hates our Country, for the man known as “The Merchant of Death,” who is one of the biggest arms dealers anywhere in the World, and responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and horrific injuries. Why wasn’t former Marine Paul Whelan included in this totally one-sided transaction? He would have been let out for the asking. What a “stupid” and unpatriotic embarrassment for the USA!!!
