Indeed, it's a phenomenal achievement. However, it must be understood that it's an experimental result. The lasers fire for a fraction of a second and can only fire once a day. Continuous power will require the lasers to fire about 40 times per second.

It does recall the first laser. It was in a huge room with tons of equipment and a monstrous power supply. When the engineers got into it they eventually developed the handheld "cat chaser" that we have so much fun with.
