I’m assuming they may have been concerned at the implications in some Dem areas that DON’T have those high state and local taxes (the reaction of those taxpayers), and also, in the end, it means higher gubmint receipts.
The whole problem was that the massive local spending will be held to higher scrutiny, and that is the lifeblood of the whole Dem party; they force taxpayers at a local level to transfer tax revenues through the public employee unions to the Dem coffers, and the Dem operatives (gubmint workforce) tolerate the higher union dues because their salaries are so out of proportion to the private sector.
He is running the state into the ground with taxes and regulations. Parts of my California city look like a ghost town from all the closed businesses.
Yet the border is still wide open, the California welfare state surges forward. New housing is mandated - and going up everywhere - by the state government even though we are under strict water restriction - as in we are running out of water.
When Newsom runs out of $$, he'll beg the Feds to make up the difference - I know he is eyeing my pension funds right now to tap into to keep his lefty dreams going.
When worse comes to worse, he'll flee with his family to Montana where he already spends a lot of time.
Meanwhile:
Not understanding why the leftists are leaving.. out of 10 I have met here in Tennessee, 10 were wearing masks. But, hey, maybe this means NorCal can split off and become a free man’s state.
He'll be elected President in 2028.
If it wasn’t for transplants, Texas would be calling Beto, senator. In 2018, native Texans voted 51-48 for Beto. Transplants voted 57-42 for Cruz.

It’s impossible that the government public schools in Colorado, which are producing hundreds of thousands of young leftist voters each and every year, have a little to do with it. Right.
It’s so much easier to blame it on california. Brilliant!
300,000 People Moved Out of California leave sh***y shoes at state line.
Colorado was once on my list of alternate places to live. I had a 3 month assignment in Colorado in early 2000. Long enough to experience the place and cross it off my list. WA state was also on the list, but I realized my options in the software development world would boil down to Microsoft, Boeing or small players. The Democrat majority in WA struck that off my candidate list. I ended up choosing SE Idaho. Still here after 23 years. Retiring soon.
A friend from my high school class of 73 just moved to TX. She sold her homes in CA and AZ. Last night the intense cold exposed some deficiencies in her new TX property. The prior owner added more floor space that lacks heating, cooling and insulation. The interior was caked in ice this morning. Both bathrooms have no running water this morning...presumably frozen pipes. She did leave the faucet running in the kitchen and there is water there. Nothing like a severe seasonal weather episode to expose problems.
She moved to TX because her children and grandchildren are there. Escaping CA and moving near her family in TX was always the plan.
How many are going to soil their new nest by continuing to vote for Democrats?
I don't miss high taxes, bumper to bumper traffic, insane gun control.
But they gained 600k new voters.
We spent about 5+ years looking all over the western U.S. before we bailed out of California.
That included Oregon, Idaho, Washington state and Nevada. We looked at Reno, Carson City NV, Coeur d’Alene and Boise ID, Spokane WA, Medford/Grants Pass Oregon etc. During those 5 years I found the cold and I were not getting along too well as I got a bit older. We settled for Arizona and are very glad we did.
My neighbor (a FReeper and former NWS employee) is a year older than me. Same birthday. He retired and moved to AZ. Better weather was his reason. I chose ID because I prefer the northwest with long Summer days. The dry mountain air (4600 ft at my house) is much better for my sinuses. Heat and humidity are not things I handle well. SE USA is not my cup of tea for climate. I've worked many weeks in those states, so it is borne of experience.
We just had our low for the season of -10F. It is warming now (14F) and fresh snow should arrive as the moisture level of the atmosphere rises. My pups want to run in the yard. It's hard when temps are below zero. They do enjoy snuggling inside when the weather is cold.
Kudos on finding a location that suits you.
I have you beat a bit on elevation, so we don’t get the extreme heat Phoenix area does in summer.☺
For us, it paid to do our homework before bailing out of CA.
