Hochul on end of (NY) gas tax break: "Those are revenues that we need to maintain our roads"

ALBANY, NY (WRGB) — Gas prices continue a downward trajectory -- a national average is $3.09, New York has an average of $3.43, and the Capital Region is averaging $3.41 a gallon, all of these numbers coming from AAA.

We’ve seen local prices below $3.

And a statewide gas tax suspension, as well as some local price cuts -- set to expire at the end of the year.

“I wanted to make sure we had a long ramp to make sure before it’s resumed to what it had been, that we knew with certainty the prices would not continue to escalate. Those are revenues that we need to maintain our roads. Make sure we don’t have potholes. I’m proud we were able to give this kind of relief to New Yorkers during this difficult time." Governor Hochul was asked Friday about extending the tax suspension.

She's saying something we've heard from other state lawmakers - the taxes go towards critical infrastructure and that revenue needs to start coming in again.

High level democrats in NY will never lose an election. They only leave office when other democrats drive them out.

I would be very surprised if all of that money went to roads. Mind you it’s SUPPOSED to.

...........I think an audit done by an overseas accounting firm would show that most of this money Hochul speaks of as being needed to “maintain our roads” in reality gets washed through a number of accounts and ultimately get’s spent on over-paid pot hole repair guys and their pensions and other benefits.

The Uni Party buys votes paying off road workers and state employees in general.

And the DA voters of NY keep voting this slime (Hochul et al) into office while hundreds of thousands of Uhaul trucks head south.

Here in Missouri the money is spent on multimillion dollar rest areas along the Interstate NOT the roads. They did put a very expensive bypass near Branson which is devoid of traffic.

Why waste money on roads, we need to send all of our money to Ukraine to buy . . . whatever Zelensky wants.

HA! Where we live (between Rochester and Syracuse) they spent millions of dollars NARROWING the roads to enlargen BIKE PATHS along some of the busiest highways so much so that it is practically impossible for emergency vehicles such a fire trucks to turn around!

She must have just gotten off the phone with California’s idiot gov. Newsom - who still believes the gas tax isn’t high enough, even though we Californians pay the highest gas taxes in the entire nation (gas recently dropped to ≈ $4.39/gallon as of yesterday).

Welcome to our gas taxes, New York! Elections have consequences.

There should also be a mileage tax on electric vehicles, they use the roads, too.

The money won’t be spent on roads. It will be folded into the general fund for all kinds of lefty programs.

This is what happens with the gas tax in California.

One of my basic rules of thumb is that you can tell how responsive your government is by the conditions of its roads. (There is a corollary to this, you can tell how well a business is doing by the condition of its parking lot).

But you are right. New York takes the tolls and the taxes and the registration fees and spends them on 'Leftist Utopia'. Then the roads crumble to rubble and in a few years, the state needs to float a bond issue to fix the crumbling infrastructure. The cycle is endless.
