Of course it caught fire. That’s its mission.

This type of information reminds me of the first Gulf War, and other encounters with Russia, and Russian military hardware. During the first Gulf War the Drive-By Media were touting all the ‘state-of-the-art’ Russian anti aircraft guns, radar, etc. They even suggested, perhaps accurately, that some Russians were in and around Iraq. Well, we all know how good the Russians were. More recently, in Syria, there were a few hundred Russians doing Putin’s bidding, and President Trump warned Putin we were going to do certain things. President Trump urged them to withdraw. They did not, and to this day President Trump regrets the loss of life. He states he tried to take less lives, while still attacking the bad guys. Come to think of it, Russia has been aligned with Syria/Iran for decades.

When has this ship ever NOT been on fire?

That's because it's not an aircraft carrier. It's a garbage scow. They frequently burn the trash rather to save money to lighten the load before dumping things overboard.

They have the Sea of Okhotsk between the Vladivostok Peninsular area and the main land, which is similar to the Gulf of Mexico and Hudson Bay, and that eventually leads to the Pacific, and they also abut the Sea of Japan. It’s pretty claustrophobic. Right across the Bering Straights is Alaska.

They could develop a navy, but it would have to have localized logistic centers across a vast area. One at the Black Sea, one at the Baltic, one in Vladivostok. They’re not just land locked. They’ve got more land than they can manage, formidable distances and harsh winters. England was a major naval power, because they were an island nation, with every port within spitting distance. America is a major naval power, because it has all that water on both coasts, and milder weather. Both America and England have centuries of shipbuilding and seafaring experience. Russia has had centuries of sporadic interest in developing a navy, but it’s not physically set up for it.

-—not an aircraft carrier? Well, yeah, all I’m seeing is a soon-to-be artificial reef. The fish will love it and the turtles can really fly off that jump deck. Using anchor chain for mooring lines is a super nice touch.

“What would they do with a navy if they had one?”

Realistically, that is why they don’t have one to speak of. They don’t count on sea lane control, and since they are not out for world domination, they don’t need a navy. We on the other hand really need one for the same reasons.
Their specialty has been missiles, SAMs, nukes and artillery needed for defense from attack, and for a war pretty much restricted to land. Our aircraft have evolved differently also, for similar reasons.

“A military that wants to project power would do more to strengthen their navy.”

Think that one all the way through. Maybe they aren’t into world domination after all.

You’re on your own trying to figger out why Winston and Ivan like jump decks. If jump jets actually worked as advertised they wouldn’t need the swoopy deck. The extra wind load on that high bow means they can’t really keep up with the fleet anyway. But let me know if you break the code.

Once, they were the Soviet Union, whose purpose was world domination.

Interestingly, Arthur Koestler’s Darkness at Noon, while a work of fiction, has one of the characters, a hero of the Potempkin uprising (Potempkin was a Czar-ist naval ship, where the Revolution allegedly first started) in the same prison as his protagonist, Rubashov, because he was opposed to the design for the new submarines, meant for coastal defense only, instead of for aggressive strikes far out at sea, to expand the communist empire. Koestler was a red-pilled former communist, and a lot of what he writes about in Darkness at Noon is corroborated from other sources. It’s possible that this, too, is factual.

But I don’t think the Soviets gave up on world domination. They furthered their imperial ambitions by sending troops, guns and propagandists to the third world, a sort of godless missionary corps, that finally ceased operation with the collapse of the Soviet Union. They did give up on military means, though, except for subduing their satellites whenever they got uppity.

Russians have always been a pirate type of people.
They have barely been able to create and maintain a functional society.

Individual Russians are not bad people, but like any third world nation - their leaders are evil and corrupt.

I consider Mexico and Brazil more modern than Russia.

Russian priests must go and bless the ship to chase out the evil spirits that dog this hard-luck vessel. She must have had a terrible launching that killed dock workers or something. Its cursed—bad luck. Nothing has worked right on her. When sent to Syria in the Civil War, her planes had to operate from land and not from her decks. One fighter crashed I believe. Russia and Assad managed to win despite the hard luck carrier.

This is a ship that the universe has voted least likely to sail.

I thought that honor went to the French Aircraft Carrier Charles de Gaulle

Make your argument that they are out to dominate the world militarily, but that we aren’t. Country invasion and bombing count. Years in active war, etc. We are leading in a runaway game.
Hell they even tried being friends with us. Warned us about Boston bombers, have us use of their bases and rails for Afghanistan, let us crawl through their kgb and other records. Let us have free reign to inspect their nuclear stockpile. Asked to be part of the missile defense against Iran. Released the records of Katyn forest with Stalins signature on the order, warned us about going socialist, you name it.

But don’t worry, they no longer trust us. That’s gonna be worth trillions of defense spending.

I don’t think it needed any help from Ukes.

Maybe not. I always heard that it was a floating disaster. 👍🤗😁
