"read my lips" would have taken a back seat to " slaughter sadaams troops on the Hiway of Death as they tried to surrender because we were caught by them stealing Iraq oil through Kuwait by slant drilling so now they all have to die" or "let the Kurds get slaughtered by sadaams helicopters as navy pilots watch because the CIA set them up to an insurrection but supplied no support"

yep best president ever ( if you are globalist scum )

What was he doing in Dallas on November 22, 1963?

He improved a little bit as President, especially after being head of the CIA while overseeing his agency’s assassination of JFK.

WWII Pilot George Bush, Sr., was shot down near an island with two other pilots.

Then rescued by an American submarine, he was the only pilot (of the three) who escaped being cannibalized by Japanese captors!

Maybe he was never told, or never investigated...

I think his proclamation of the New World Order far surpasses his blatant lie of NO NEW TAXES...a true government leech and he did our Republic a disservice over all. Another RINO disappointment.IMHO

“Why the late George H.W. Bush is the most underrated great US president”

He was a very, very, nice person. And, at this point, I’m out of good things to say about him.

Loyal to Reagan!!??
What?

In what way?

The gop foisted him onto Reagan after losing primary to him. He never said a nice word about Reagan

When did any Bush ever say anything about Reagan much less anything nice or remotely loyal.

Ex-CIA cold war spooks aren’t good choices for someone entrusted to look out for our freedoms.

All the criticisms us FReepers have of Bush Sr are true. But at the same time I have thoroughly appreciated Bush Sr giving us my five favorite words of DC for decades:

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas

Sure, “no new taxes”. GHWB was a terrible POTUS, who brought about eight years of the Clintons.

“Loyal VP to Reagan, 89 percent approval rating in February 1991 but screws it all up with read my lips.”

Maybe, regarding loyalty, but possibly helping the other side, like Pence (not sure either way).

As far as Read My Lips, that was all Lee Atwater, and Atwater died in early 1991, and at that point, Bush no longer knew how to appear to be a conservative - so he got rolled by the Democrats. And interesting how Atwater died at just the right time for Bush to be left hanging out to dry.

He did bring the Cold War to a successful close and was a better president than the three who came after him.

“Read my lips” was stupid. Reagan had managed to fund the government (i.e. tax rises) without promising that he wouldn’t to it.

More to the point is that Bush ended Reagan’s budget freeze (i.e. limited rise), let spending lose, and then was surprised that the deficit was a problem.

He was president, and Dick Cheney was secdef during my time in the Corps. Good for Bush for his service in WWII, but afterward, I have no time for either of them.

Yeah, almost like Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama were the same team and we didn’t realize it fully until an America First President came along..
Then the steal and more of the same Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama with Biden..

Those are swamp first, they’re families first, and America last..

The exact opposite was Trump for 4 years.

Trump ruined the R vs D Con..

No wonder the hatred for Trump is bipartisan..

I voted for Poppy twice, but, no, he’s not underrated. He was a disastrously bad choice for Reagan, and he and his son did a lot of damage to this country.
