Chinese officials have admitted that the country's total number of Covid-related deaths is 'huge', with one doctor saying as many as 70 percent of Shanghai's 25 million residents may have been infected.....

She warned that China could 'take countermeasures based on the principle of reciprocity'.
In late December, Beijing said inbound travellers would no longer be required to quarantine, sending many Chinese people rushing to book trips abroad.

I would really like to know, What alternative explanation makes any sense? 2 weeks ago, China was fully engaged in city wide lockdowns in major cities. Suddenly, hey, go forth and multiply. I will confess I haven’t studied this at any great length, but if China is making this admission now, that they have suffered tremendous number of deaths and cases, then spreading this disease, like they did the last time, may be in their View the most strategic means of weakening their greatest enemy, which is the us.
This is how those in power in the United States have kept us under their thumb.

Kidding aside, what variant is predominant in PRC? Is it similar to what is in most of the world - contagious but rarely lethal?
PRC has an aging population which may make matters worse.
Doubtful if mask and vaccine mandates gain any further traction in the US other than a few areas.

Rule of thumb: about one percent of a populace dies off each year. One percent of China's 1.4 billion would be 14 million per year, or about 38 thousand per day, and we would think this normal. Therefore "experts" suggesting 9 thousand per day is "sweeping the country" is not adequate data collection, adequate analysis nor accurate by many measures. It is fear-making. And the headline assures this.

Well past the headline, one reads a named official saying, "Relative to the rest of the world, the infection peaks we are faced with across the country are not unusual."
And another, "...the relative percentage of deaths may still be low."
The point of this comment is to show the way "journalism" plays the three card monte. Until deaths per day in China is reported to be above 38 thousand per day, I for one will conclude that things are "not unusual" and "may still be low" as we also read in the Daily Mail.
Others commenting on this thread say they do not trust Communist China's data, and I agree. I also do not trust the pictorial evidence as selected by editors to show readers the fearful state of things, because we have seen Chinese videos in January 2020 of people supposedly dropping dead on the streets, which contributed to fear and lockdowns and economic privation. Fear washes over people, and they can threrby be stampeded.

I’m just speculating here, but is it possible that the Chinese are predisposed to this Covid-engineered bio-weapon? The idea of crafting a bio-agent to attack a particular ethnic genetic makeup was discussed in the Ukraine bio lab setting where Russians claimed the Slovik population was being targeted. While the ‘runaway’ Chinese situation is likely due to a lot of internal mismanagement, the Chinese have been extremely paranoid from the get-go over this bio-agent, leading me to wonder whether they sense the agent may have been engineered to be especially lethal to their genetic makeup. I haven’t listened to George Webb recently, but, at least one of his theories was that the bio-agent was U.S. developed and released at the October 2019 Wuhan Military Games.
Maybe it’s not china virus deaths.
