But I wouldn't think about owning an EV up north. Cold weather = having to run the "precondition" to heat the battery = loss of miles/kWh. Less sunlight up north too = less free solar power to power your home and charge the EV.
Similar to us.
We live in N Ga.
Wife’s daily driver is a plug-in hybrid, with a 12 mile commute.
I drive a 2012 F150 Ecoboost that is a great vehicle, despite the disparaging remark on this thread about the Ecoboost engine.
Third car is for fun - my wife’s Porsche - premium unleaded thank you very much.
EVs make sense for some use cases in some regions, but they definitely aren’t a viable “all around” solution at this point. Until they get all the pitfalls worked out, they should be seen as a compliment to ICE’s rather than a replacement. And SoCal with its never-ending sunny days shouldn’t be allowed to dictate what vehicles the rest of the country can drive. I think even Elon Musk, the king of EVs, has said we’re not ready for them yet.
It’s cool to own an EV IF you own an ICE vehicle too...
It would be nuts to only own an EV.
They won’t pull you through a Hurricane evacuation - they could catch fire if salt water hits the battery, or just stop running in 6 hour evacuations. . In cold weather you might not get home before the battery dies... the Southwest Airline’s version of car ... cancelled.
