“...since California was not technically a slave state...”

No, California wasn’t a slave state, period. The slave states that then existed traded their lock on the Senate in exchange for a Fugitive Slave Act that compelled every American to aid in the recapture of runaway slaves. California, with its gold was too valuable to not become a state. As it turned out, the Fugitive Slave Act created a lot more resentment in the North toward the South’s ‘peculiar institution’.

But the descendants of early Chinese immigrants have a lot more cause for complaint than black residents of SF and Cal. The laws of the time explicitly targeted their ancestors. But of course the Chinese and Japanese somehow were able to overcome the adversity faced by their grandparents but current black residents apparently have not. It is not allowed to ask why that is.

Chinese, Japanese and other South Asians have gotten back at racism & racists by being better at the “job of life” then their oppressors. Chinese and Indians have done that almost all over the world.

With your screen name, I can understand why.
