Practical effects ALWAYS appear more authentic than CGI.

I absolutely agree with that. CGI has made great strides, but it’s still not the same. Especially watch war movies made with real explosives going off all over the place and compare to CGI.
I do have to admit that the German “All Quiet on the Western Front” was spectacular.
I just finished watching the mid 80s “North and South” TV series. It was a great show and has good Civil War battle scenes with thousands of re-enactors, but bodies weren’t blown to bits. Everybody who “died” did so very sanitarily with no gore, no body parts all over the place, and no blood.
In AQOTWF you see more gore than you want.
It’s not just in Germany. In Chicago, gangs of blacks were running around the city blowing up ATMs using the 2020 BLM riots as cover.
