Trump: ‘Under no circumstances’ should Republicans cut Social Security or Medicare

Former President Trump on Friday urged Republicans in Congress not to cut “a single penny” from Medicare or Social Security, a notable warning as some GOP lawmakers prepare to use the debt ceiling debate as leverage to try to secure spending cuts.

“Under no circumstances should Republicans vote to cut a single penny from Medicare or Social Security to help pay for Joe Biden’s reckless spending spree, which is more reckless than anybody’s ever done or had in the history of our country,” Trump said in a recorded video statement posted to Truth Social.

The former president, who in November launched a 2024 White House campaign, called for cuts to a slew of other areas, including funding for “corrupt foreign countries,” “climate extremism,” “left-wing gender programs from our military” and “waste, fraud and abuse everywhere we can find it.”

He lambasted Biden’s spending agenda, though the national debt increased by roughly $7 trillion during the Trump administration.

CUT? Eliminate them. Completely, now.

The time for the Republicans to declare their intention to eliminate Social Security would be right before the next election. Lindsay Graham could do it.

The Government should never break a contract they setup with its citizens.

The GOP needs to fix this, not anger a good part of their base.

How about they start with the huge cost of Illegal Aliens and remove them from the country?!

It would be a really stupid move at this point. Cut welfare, foreign aid, foreign wars, and deport illegals.

How? You have way too many people that structured their lives around it. My mother for instance, what would she do? Go back to work at 80?

It will never end because people will refuse to pay into something they will not get back.

I really have no idea how it will ever come to an end.

This isnt something you can quit cold turkey. Too many people would get crushed

Under no circumstances, without a specific amendment to let them be lawful in the first place, should any of the federal welfare state ever have existed.

The Law over illegitimate benefits!

Cut either program and Republicans won't be able to be elected to dog catcher.

Social Security is an earned benefit, cutting that would lead to real unrest. All the other entitlements are funded, and they want to single out SS and Medicare. The Democrats are praying that the Republicans make cuts.

GOP making cuts to SS and Medicare:

“ Both are broke... so... ”

I don’t know Medicares finances, but Social Security isn’t broke. In a few years it wont be taking in enough to cover all benefits - only 70 percent - but that’s not the case now. GOP should be finding ways to fund the full benefits going forward, not trying to cut benefits (at the same time it never cuts military or services for poor immigrants)

Agree with Trump.

Those programs were paid in by taxpayers and they should get the promised benefits.

Instead of cutting those programs as Rand Paul wanted us to do, we should take Trump’s approach.

Focus on the economy and get it running full blast. Limit immigration so as to drive American worker’s wages up. The combination will produce windfall tax revenues which will allow us to meet our committments.

Entitlements
Defense
Interest Expense

The big 3 of the US Fed.gov budget. If you want to fix $1 Trillion+ deficits, you can’t avoid it.

The other option - continue with $1 Trillion deficits, kicking the can down the road, hoping it all blows up under someone else’s watch.

“CUT? Eliminate them. Completely, now.”

Fine. First, make sure my wife and I get our money (and our employer’s money, which would have gone to our salaries) over the last 45 years, with interest tracking the Fortune 500. Then I’m sure that we will be able to afford retirement and health care, while I enjoy polishing my new Ferrari.

If the gopes actually try to do this, I will switch parties. Their stellar work on healthcare alreay puts them on thin ice.

100% agree with Trump on this. Leave these programs alone, promises were made, people paid into this their whole lives and have planned for it.
