Cut either program and Republicans won't be able to be elected to dog catcher.

Not only that, they need to go on the protect SS/ImproveMedicare offensive as the Dems are already pigeonholing them as cutting these programs.

If Trump were to do that he might as well quit right now.

This isnt something you can quit cold turkey. Too many people would get crushed

Bad planning on other's part does not constitute an emergency on everyone else's part. If folks depended on Social Security, a known pyramid scheme, then they planned poorly. I've paid in masses of money over the past 30 years that I will never get close to the amount out that I could have turned into many times more money on my own, but had no choice. I will gladly give that up to end the scam.

Both are broke... so...

~~~
Trump is right. If you ever want to win back the Senate and the White House, you shouldn’t go anywhere near these!
What voting block do you actually expect not to hate you? I’ve heard that most millennials and newer are cynical about social security and don’t actually think it will be around by the time they get there anyway, but you certainly don’t want to play the bad guy on this.
I don’t care if both are broke. Why are we spending TRILLIONS on everything else in the world, including proxy wars?
Trump’s position is under no circumstances cut any government spending. Trump had a lot of good qualities and positions. Fiscal conservatism was not one of them. His view was spend spend spend and then lower interest rates and have easy money pay off the deficit.
Why are they even TALKING about them?
Or this stupid VAT tax idea? Idiots. They have ONE House. All these stupid words just feed ads against them.
WIN first, then DO...swiftly and without warning. Do not talk about shit!
> Would result in Democrat super majorities. <
Bingo. And then government spending would become even worse than it is.
Cuts need to be made elsewhere. But of course that will never happen. My prediction: The Feds will eventually have to inflate their way out. Pay back real dollars with worthless paper.
I just don’t know when that will happen. My crystal ball is cloudy on that.
Fine. First, make sure my wife and I get our money (and our employer’s money, which would have gone to our salaries) over the last 45 years, with interest tracking the Fortune 500. Then I’m sure that we will be able to afford retirement and health care, while I enjoy polishing my new Ferrari.
Planning on a pyramid scheme to pay off is poor planning on your part. I'm in the same state, but have no intention of depending on it.
“It would be a really stupid move at this point. Cut welfare, foreign aid, foreign wars, and deport illegals.”
...and about 100 redundant and useless federal agencies and the bureaucrats that live there.
My solution to get the GOP to stop talking about cutting Social Security: relabel it a national-defense program. Also, enroll Zelensky in Social Security and Medicare. That will get Mitch McConnell to stop moaning hoe these “entitlements” are bankrupting us.
It was designed that way!
A continuously bleeding funds Ponzi Machine.
It would take a generation to shed ourselves from it.
There are ways to evolve from it. Chile had a similar problem and successfully moved toward a privatized system. Yes, there is a huge difference of scale, but it could be done. Of course, any attempt to do so would be demagogued by the left unmercifully. It would be difficult to stay the course.
OK gunlover so Social Security is eliminated. What is your solution for the people who paid into all their lives and that is what they live on in their old age?? And don’t give us the old “they should have saved or planned better” BS. Things happen in life that some have no control over and savings are gone.
It’s easy to say cut, cut but offer no alternative. If you want the GOP to be out of power forever then go ahead and try cutting Social Security. Republicans would be thrown out of office so fast your head would spin. Then we would wind up with a perpetual one party state...that what you want??
Old folks may not say much but I guarantee you that if you take the road you want they will hammer the politicians into the ground. Seniors are a massive voting block...and the maga crowd doesn’t hold a candle to their voting power.
You can tell who the REAL Free Republic trolls are by the replies to this thread.
I’m not at all shocked by some of the names...
Listen up: You’ll have to unwind 200 years of socialism—with better outcomes for those who became dependent. It can’t be done all at once. Only an idiot would advocate for these cuts, or be an operative on a conservative forum who wants the democrats and media to point fingers here and tar us all.
PERIOD.
And they should not beat their wives either.
No politician is proposing any cuts to anything. They can’t even propose caps much less cuts.
There are ways to evolve from it.
Yes there is. Set up a well defined program to transition from 2030 -2040. About the same time the Dems will sunset ICE vehicles
I’m not relying on it. But I want my money back and I’ll be pretty damn mad if I don’t get it.
“Those programs were paid in by taxpayers and they should get the promised benefits.”
I was forced to pay into SS. If the government had protected it and invested properly instead of spending the money, all SS recipients would at least be comfortable. If I had been allowed to conservatively invest the money I had to pay into SS, I and millions would be comfortable and putting money into the economy instead of out. Cutting my survival now would be the ultimate stab in the back.
