President Donald Trump Wednesday night joined the outcry against AT&T DirecTV's removal of Newsmax from its satellite and cable systems, calling it "disgusting" and saying that the move was a "big blow to the Republican Party and to America itself."
In a post on his Truth Social, Trump wrote:
"WOW. AT&T DIRECTV REMOVES NEWSMAX FROM ITS CHANNEL LINEUP. This disgusting move comes after “deplatforming” OAN last year. The Radical Left seems to have taken over the mind and soul of AT&T. This is a big blow to the Republican Party, and to America itself.”
Trump continued: “For DIRECTV to drop very popular NEWSMAX, without explanation, will not be accepted. I, for one, will be dropping all association with AT&T and DIRECTV, and I have plenty. This is just one of many reasons why we must WIN IN 2024!!!"
Trump's statement came after AT&T's DirecTV cut Newsmax's signal at midnight Tuesday, stopping its delivery to more than 13 million customers on the satellite service, DirecTV Stream, and U-Verse.
The move is the second time in the past year that AT&T has canceled a conservative channel. It deplatformed the One America News Network (OAN) last April.
AT&T’s decision to deplatform OAN came soon after House Democrats under Nancy Pelosi wrote to major cable and satellite companies, including DirecTV, demanding OAN, Newsmax and Fox News be removed for spreading “misinformation.”
This week DirecTV deplatformed Newsmax, the 4th highest-rated cable news channel in the nation, a top 16 channel for daytime among all cable channels and watched by 25 million Americans, according to Nielsen ratings.

At&t hasn’t owned directv for nearly 2 years.

How come my Direct TV bill for last month said ATT?
It was spun off but they still own it.
The wife has asked for our Roku to be moved into the main TV she watches in order to get used to it. At which point, we'll drop AT&T U-Verse (finally! - I would have done this a few years back).
Of all the things going on in this country and the world that Trump could be making comments about he chooses to comment on a TV show..??? And this type of non-focus on important issues will prove to be his undoing. Sure he is entitled to his opinion...but he is running for President and needs to focus on what we need to fix in this country. It’s this type of stuff that give the MSM ammunition to use against him.

Too late. I canceled them a year ago.
When John Stankey (sp?) took over as CEO from Randall Stevenson, one of the first moves he announced to Wall Street was getting out of the content, TV and advertising businesses.
They dumped Warner on Discovery and DirecTV to a private equity firm.
Directv is NOT an AT&T company, although AT&T could not unload ALL 100% onto a buyer. I think they have a 60-70% stake.
I have a relative who works AT&T and there’s no more intermixed of systems, employee discounts etc.
The billing be a legacy lawyer-defined thing. Dunno.
But fundamentally DirecTV is not part of ATT.
I dropped direct tv immediately when they stopped carrying NewsMax.
Called them and told them why also.
Put up an antenna and watch only the side band programming no fake news allowed.
How come you are still getting a DirectTV billing? There are other carriers, you know.
AT&T does not need, nor do they deserve, your continued support. Vote with you pocketbook.
Trump could cure cancer and create a workable fusion generator and the MSM would find ammunition in that to use against him.
I am totally pissed at AT&T for dropping OAN, which was/is my favorite news source.
And I’m not too fond of YOU for poo-poohing its significance.
I wish everyone would stop harping on “DirecTV”. Newsmax was dropped from *ALL* AT&T TV services, which includes their streaming (not satellite) TV service (called DirecTV check their website, damnit), and their U-Verse Internet TV service.
Sorry...It’s their company...their choice.
It’s still run by ATT - they have majority ownership under umbrella with private equity firm.
