Or the Prisoners of War in the Hanoi Hilton who made an American flag out of rags, and at the peril of their very lives, took it out every day so they could say the Pledge of Allegiance in front of it.
Or the crazy Marines in Vietnam, who, as it was falling in 1975, commandeered a helicopter, flew it to an US Consulate that had just been overrun by the NVA, and as the dumfounded North Vietnamese crews in their parked tanks right near the flagpole stared in open mouthed astonishment up at them, they maneuvered the Huey to the top of the flag pole, and one of the crazy bastards went out on the skid and cut the flag loose with his Kabar and took it with them.
So when I hear of this person standing on top of a police car with a "tattered American flag" I would take great joy at seeing him get hit in the stones by a pepperball round.
Gif....
LOL
Like once on the old version of Magnum PI and an innocent woman asked “does that mean he was in his stomach?” each of the guys had to suppress laughter until Mangum could say “No, it wasn’t in his stomach.”

Also great examples of honoring the flag. Heroes.
A good time to thank everyone here who served our country.
