Authorities have launched an investigation into the latest robbery and assaults of a postal worker in Oakland.
When this happened in the 1920, President Harding dent the Marines to protect the mail.

The order to the Marines.
“You must, when on guard duty, keep your weapons in hand and, if attacked, shoot and shoot to kill. There is no compromise in this battle with bandits. If two Marines guarding a mail car, for example, are suddenly covered by a robber, neither must hold up his hands, but both must begin shooting at once. One may be killed, but the other will get the robbers and save the mail. When our Marine Corps men go as guards over the mail, that mail must be delivered, or there must be a dead Marine at the post of duty. “
Robberies stopped cold.
Sounds like a lucrative criminal enterprise.(Sarcasm)
I’ve seen countless YouTube videos of what a third world hellhole Oakland is.
I’m sorry, but any Postal Worker caught dead or alive in Oakland deserves what he gets.
Love that description. Too bad Harding hit a scandal in those prissy times. Sounded like a good guy.
Only a few thousand videos of Oakland.
Why would any decent person enter that place?
Oakland atrocity sit pictures....
2nd row from top asks “is this the United States.”
Dunno. Does California still count as the US?
“site” not sit. Sorry.
Sometimes the old ways are the best ways.

Back in the day passenger trains carried the mail as well as passengers. It is one reason why mail moved so much faster 100 years ago than today. The mail was actually sorted while it moved between cities. And the train didn’t need to stop to either pick up or deliver mail to a town as it went by it.
It is also why the Federal government could intervene in rail strikes. You could do a lot of things, but don’t even think of interfering with the mail. But I fear the days of taking forceful action to prevent and/or punish crimes are long past us. Except, of course, crimes against special people and places.

I gently disagree. It’s a union seniority thing. Some guy gets hired by USPS. Honorto him for providing for his family, instead of just sitting at home. He has no seniority, so he gets the worst route.
And every day he checks the bid sheet, hoping to bid out of that crumby route and into something better. The odds are in his favor. So he hangs in there, for the sake of his family (I know guys like that.)
The people who deserve scorn are those judges and politicians. They let violent criminals out to prey on innocents.
Is there a primary election coming up?
In liberal cities, if the crime rate doubles, it’s just an ‘uptick’.
Just airdrop mailbags from helicopters and let the residents sort thru it.
The USPS has its own police force (the postal inspectors). Those guys should flood the area where most of the attacks are occurring.
Oh, wait. That show of force might upset the liberal Oakland politicians. I guess the helicopter idea might better after all.
A different...
“The mail was actually sorted while it moved between cities. “
Did not know that.
A different time.
Mailmen USED to be untouchable in every poor neighborhood.
Not any more.
