The Palestinian Authority (PA) foreign affairs bureau on Thursday welcomed the decision of the Mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, to suspend all institutional relations with Israel, including the cancellation of the twinning agreement with the city of Tel Aviv.
In a statement quoted by the PA’s WAFA news agency, the bureau called on other cities to take similar steps, “given that this step puts pressure on the occupation government to stop all its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people, their land, sanctities, and rights, and to stop all its illegal unilateral measures that undermine peace opportunities.”
Colau on Wednesday announced that she is suspending all of the city’s ties with Israel, citing what she called “the repeated violations of human rights of the Palestinian population and non-compliance with United Nations resolutions.”
She added that Barcelona will maintain relations with “Israeli and Palestinian entities that continue to work for peace and against apartheid.”

time Israel did. Instead they decided to fight it every
step of the way. And now they blame everyone but
themselves.
Spain should know it. It’s truly sad a nation like Spain
can’t figure this out.

Yes she is thus predictably historically ignorant or deconstructed Israel’s history to make Israel the regional villain. Either way her activism marks her out as an enemy on the left.
Franco didn’t kill enough of the Communists at the end of the Spanish Civil War. At the least he should have expelled a whole bunch of them.

It is not yet clear if the suspension will be approved by the city council.
Note that the Jews were NOT kicked out during the inquisition
but rather, earlier , in the 1490s when the Spanish finally kicked out the Muslim rulers
NOte that this was when the Christians finally tossed out the Muslim rulers - so they tossed out their collaborators (as Jews were forced or sometimes not quite forced to be) - so Muslims and Jews were evicted.
They kicked the Jews out unless they converted. Those that stayed and converted, if it was discovered by the Inquisition that they had continued “Judaizing” in secret, were burnt at the stake and all their property forfeit. Pretty bastardly all around. A rabbi who managed to leave Spain, became the head of the Moroccan Navy, and as such mostly practiced piracy against Spanish shipping.

In 1492 about 2/3 of the remaining Jews converted.
The Inquisition was aimed at, initially, not the conversos of 1492, but at those earlier ones and their descendants, ones much like Torquemada himself, who was descended from Jewish conversos grandparents. Torquemada, IIRC, was of pure Jewish stock.
Nice town, with misguided mayor. I think Catalonian Independence is a bigger issue amongst his population. One opposed by Ada Colau. But Jews, in this case Israel, make a good distraction.
Ack! we were planning to visit Barca this summer but I am loathe to spend money here if the city is anti-zionist. OTOH if it’s just the nutcase mayor...
