Schools in Washington are for employing teachers, not for teaching studentsi
Good, hope they do and many more. I want to see these people on the street selling pencils.
Sounds like a good idea. Let’s Go Brandon! FJB!
What? Now the kids won’t be able to NOT learn math in a school atmosphere while dodging advances and indoctrination by lgbtq educators, and dodging gang members between classes in the hallways and bathrooms!
Not one woked teacher will be fired.
Parents don’t appreciate schools grooming their children and brainwashing them into racists.
It’s not the pandemic that drove families out of Portland
Public schools are for people who don’t care about education. The best of them are still crap. Their entire teaching model is designed to reduce work by teachers and administrators and teach to test scores.
Across Lake Washington in a saner part of King County, the Bellevue school district is doing the same thing. Consolidating 3 elementary schools. https://mynorthwest.com/3808009/rally-bellevue-school-consolidation/
IMHO, that’s a good start. These parents rather than protesting the consolidation, should be talking to the parents that took their kids out of these public cesspools and join the homeschool movement.
Homeschooling is the only option for a solid education, in this state currently, and even in a big liberal areas like Seattle/Bellevue there are homeschooling cooperatives and support groups that are springing up all the time. These are valuable to parents who can only be mom or dad rather than a teacher (even though most who subscribe to that line of thinking sells themselves short because parents are teachers, the best ones.)
School districts disticts running short of money cans start by ditching the guidance counselors, the non-academic courses, the sex indoctrinaion programs, and the spectator sports programs that turn us into spectators. We built a nation without this garbage.
Parents do not want to send their kids to these woke schools.
Just wait for the next school bond proposal.
Enrollment is down. We must raise taxes!
Enrollment is up. We must raise taxes!
Ebbing enrollment isn’t limited to blue states that had strict pandemic closures and restrictions — Texas officials are projecting a 2.2% decline over the next four years, pointing to declining birth rates as the cause.

The Austin Independent School District released a plan Thursday to close 12 schools and move those students to other campuses due to undercapacity (no students) at those 12 schools.

Hannah Ray Lambert needs to rewrite her article after someone slaps her up side her head with a cold towel. Austin closed 12 schools in 2021 due to Liberalism......PERIOD!! These closings were in the making a long time before anybody even heard of the Covid fraud. No parent in their right mind would send a kid to AISD....my former school district......a LONG time ago.
Bus the illegal aliens to these places. They have lots of kids and are overwhelming the border schools.
Kids in public schools are like soldiers on the beach in Dunkirk. Get them out!!!
I suspect most of the commentors did not read the article.
“Homeschooling rates in Washington nearly doubled at the height of the pandemic, according to state data, and currently sit at about a 43% increase over the 2019-2020 school year. But in Seattle, there are actually fewer registered homeschoolers than before the pandemic, Garrison Stuber said.
“I really think that what Seattle’s seeing, where those students have gone are either to private schools or they’ve left the school district and have moved elsewhere,” she said.”
Home schooling is not the issue in Seattle. It is family flight to the suburbs (probably along with smaller family sizes).
I am shoked that an article has a direct link to the raw data. Reporters/Editors hate doing that.
The tables on page 3 of this report shows exactly what I am referring to above. Everything but high school is down. The HS will see it in a couple of years.

Looking at their data, without know actual location of schools, it will be hard to close very many schools. All consolidation will happen at the elementary level as the Middle and HS are pretty stable in enrollment.
This was an issue already when I lived in Seattle from 2004-2006. You never saw that many children anywhere in the city, and even the old High school on Queen Anne was converted to apartments. Ditto San Francisco which has had the smallest percentage of families with children of any large city since the 1980s.
White flight perhaps?
