The crazed mass shooter who shot dead three students and left five others in critical condition at Michigan State University was identified Tuesday as 43-year-old Anthony Dwayne McRae.
The gunman was identified as police confirmed he was found dead of suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound at 11:35 p.m., just over three hours after he first opened fire.
Cops earlier said the killer was not thought to be connected to the university, and police did not reveal a possible motive in Tuesday’s early morning update.

Per the news conference last night the two buildings where this occurred were open to everyone and they are occupied during “business hours”. The residential halls required keyed entry but anyone who thinks that is real security from an “active shooter” is very optimistic. All you have to do is follow someone in or wait until someone exits or simply shoot out the window and open it from the inside. It’s a dorm - not a bank.
Based on the description of the arrest for possessing the firearm without a permit, paranoid schizophrenia is a real possibility (he told the officer he had the gun without a permit but he “needed it for protection”). They said there was no other criminal history outside of driving infractions and no prior history of violence.
43 years old and no prior history indicates something likely changed with his mental health. Sad. Every parents nightmare.

43 years old, living with his parents who were described as nice people by a neighbor, in a decrepit house. Mom passed away in 2020 and dad regularly attends church (per the neighbor). City was going after them for failing to clean up the yard and mow the weeds.
There is nothing to indicate this had anything to do with “race” - sounds like mental illness.

im in Michigan...theyve been harping on the Oxford High shooting the last year and a half....wont let it go. Now they are pulling out all the stops...locals news anchors in tears...even the ER doctor that treated some victims last night...he collapsed on to the podium at the press conference, sobbing, but naturally no tears...like hes never treated a gun shot victim before. And its the usual sophistry...”oh..kids cant even go to school anymore...cant go to the movies..cant go to church” etc etc. Well..they couldnt go to school then when Charles Whitman killed 16 people from the U of Texas tower 50 years ago....or they cant go to McDonalds when James Huberty did his thing in San Ysidro Cali in 1984...you can go back and play that game since the country was founded. I mean, 94 years ago today, 7 Chicago gangsters were massacred in their own garage on Clark Street in Chicago...poor gangsters cant even make bootleg booze...whats the world coming too!!!??....You cant 100% guarantee anybody’s safety...arm yourself and keep ya head up...all you can do....
