The other day on Andrew Wilkow’s show, a man called in who had been an engineer and higher for the railroads for 50 years.
He said the electronic braking issue is a straw man as most trains are a mix of cars that have either mechanical or electronic braking. That being the case, he said that the electronically braked cars would slow no faster than the mechanically braked ones.
He said the only instance where there may have been a marginal advantage is if every car on the train had electronic braking control, which would have been extremely rare.
