What happened: Enemy of Freedom™ Pete Buttigieg launched a failed campaign for president of the United States at the age of 37 after serving two terms as mayor of South Bend, the fourth-largest city in Indiana. He was adored by journalists and other out-of-touch white Democrats due to his youthful nerdy gayness and Obama-esque ability to regurgitate platitudes.

I heard him on many occasions be so articulate and put-together that there is no way a person with dementia can be that way... and for years on end. So it’s all choreographed (probably even his walk) because at their root – they are con men and actors.

1,000 derailments a year is probably accurate. Most derailments aren’t at all newsworthy, you’ll only know about them if you’re a railfan.
What’s more important is why this one ended up with a huge fire and a chemical spill. And whether the new management fad of Precision Scheduled Railroading is an inherently risky practice that is to blame.

Rumor is that Mayor Butthead is running for Senate in Indiana - Mike Braun is running for Governor in 2024 leaving the GOP held seat empty. So Far No Dem is running.
He got an easy job, but bungled it.
Butt-gag should go to work for UPS and put his extensive experience with backdoor deliveries to good use.
Since being “Secretary” of Transportation, Energy, Education, or Housing and Urban Development are basically no-show jobs, it seems unfair to blame Mayor Pete for something like this.
When it happened, he was doing a vital service - which had nothing to do with transportation - giving a press conference to point out that too many white people had construction jobs.
I can believe it. I would also bet that many are so minor that even the railfans miss them, with no damage, just boosting the car back onto the rails
