Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the Wagner group, on Tuesday accused the Russian defence minister and the chief of the general staff of depriving his fighters of munitions and trying to destroy Wagner - actions he said were equivalent to treason.
A onetime catering entrepreneur who once shunned the public spotlight, Prigozhin has assumed an more public role since the start of the war in Ukraine a year ago, with his Wagner Group spearheading Russia's months-long battle for the town of Bakhmut in Ukraine's Donetsk region.
"There is simply direct opposition going on," Prigozhin said in a voice message posted on his Telegram channel. "This can be equated to high treason".
It is the second such message published by Prigozhin in two days. On Monday, he complained that unnamed officials were denying Wagner supplies out of personal animosity to him.
Apparently angry, and speaking at times with a raised voice, Prigozhin blamed Russia's Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and Valery Gerasimov, the country's most senior soldier, of deliberately causing the arms shortages, which he said were causing heightened losses among Wagner troops fighting around Bakhmut.

The Russian Winter Offensive that has been touted for months has turned into yet another embarrassing disaster for the Russians.
This time it looks like Prigozhin is going to take the fall, but Putin has a shrinking list of underlings to keep throwing under the bus.
If Prigo had captured Bakhmut in time for Putin’s “Victory Concert” tomorrow, things would be different.
At least Prigozhin has some chef Boyardee level skills. What has that rat Putin ever done that is useful?
Apparently, Prigozhin has some feminine “skills” learned from his time in prison.
Why waste another bullet, another tank, another jet, another personnel carrier or even one more Russian soldier over a war that will end with the demise of Putin?
Save what you can... That is likely the order being given by those ‘treasonous’ Russians within the military hierarchy who understand that this war will end and Russia will still need to defend itself. That will be hard to do if you waste all your military resources on a war that you are losing, and a war you can’t win.
Putin bemoaned the “spiritual catastrophe” of the West.
“They distort historical facts and constantly attack our culture, the Russian Orthodox Church, and other traditional religions of our country,” Putin claimed. “Look at what they do with their own peoples: the destruction of the family, cultural and national identity, perversion, and the abuse of children are declared the norm. And priests are forced to bless same-sex marriages.”
“As it became known, the Anglican Church plans to consider the idea of a gender-neutral God … Millions of people in the West understand they are being led to a real spiritual catastrophe,” he claimed.
