With absolutely no information regarding what caused the derailment, Buttigieg blamed this on Trump and his deregulation. Turns out, after three weeks, it was an overheated break/axel that was detected by 2 to 3 trackside sensors. Had nothing to do with Trump and deregulation. Will we get an apology from Buttigieg for lying about the cause of the accident? I won’t hold my breath.

So, first, the regulations in question would not have applied to this train. Second, even if the regulations had applied, the brakes would not have helped for each of several reasons - including the actual cause of the derailment - even if it wasn’t caused by an axle seizing.

From another poster-”The laws they are spouting off about were changed in 2016. Yes, the new law was ACTUALLY signed by President Obama. What Trump did was change an old Presidential Executive Order order to COMPLY WITH THE NEW LAW because it was in conflict with the 2015 rules. On top of that, even the Biden Administration has stated that the change would not have affected what happened in Ohio because it did not apply to the type and cargo of trains involved and would have made no difference in the outcome.”
