Permitless concealed carry gun bill advances in Nebrask

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — After years of trying to pass a bill to allow people to carry concealed guns in Nebraska without a permit, conservative lawmakers are on the cusp of doing so, thanks in part to the defection of two Democratic Omaha senators — the only Black lawmakers in the body — who cited racial disparity in enforcing gun laws in their districts.

After three days of debate, lawmakers voted 36-12 Friday to advance the bill. It must survive two more rounds of debate to pass.

While the bill would not usurp the federal requirement for a background check to buy a gun, it would allow people to carry guns hidden in their clothing or vehicle without having to pay for a government permit or take a now-required gun safety course. It also would override stricter gun laws in the state’s cities, including in the state’s largest city of Omaha, which requires a conceal carry license for anyone carrying a gun in a car — even if the gun is in open view.

Wow, that is fantastic! Maybe they gain even more sense and leave the Democrat plantation and its slave owners altogether and join the party of freedom.

I'm curious;

I committed a felony in 1969 and henceforth, ineligible ala gun control act 1968

I DID file for a conceal carry in a different state in 1983 or 84, and was refused because I was data based.

Now . . . all these states that are passing or trying to pass unrestricted (so to speak) weapons carry . . . don't they do a background check first, or can I waltz right in, set up residency and legally own and carry ?

BTW . . . I'm now 75 and light years past my foolish 20's

I am not a lawyer. Permit less carry means that anyone who can legally own/possess a firearm can conceal carry a firearm without background check or anything. The fact that you were convicted of a felony means that you cannot legally own or possess a firearm, so no, permit less carry does not apply to you.

Well, but rightly or wrongly there is a GCA 1968.

However, black-powder firearms are not ‘firearms’ under Federal and most state laws.

My copy of the second amendment doesn’t say that former felons are not included under the protections it affirms.

Nor does mine. I believe at least one Federal Judge agrees. But right now, a felon with a firearm may well be facing serious penalties.
