U.K. PM Rishi Sunak has some ideas about how to stop mass illegal immigration: Maybe Biden and Kamala Can Get a Clue

Up until now, I've not been particularly impressed with the U.K.'s new prime minister, Rishi Sunak, who comes off as sort of a British version of a Mitt Romney-style corporate RINO, not a leftist, but certainly no Margaret Thatcher, either.

But he's come up with some surprises.

Here are his tweets on how he plans to disincentivize illegal immigration, a problem that's almost as bad over there as it is here:

Today we are introducing new laws that mean if you come to the UK illegally you will be banned from ever re-entering our country.

This is how we will break the business model of the people smugglers; this is how we will take back control of our borders.

If you come to the UK illegally you will be stopped from making late claims and attempts to frustrate your removal.

You will be removed in weeks, either to your own country if it is safe to do so, or to a safe third country like Rwanda.

If you come to the UK illegally:

➡️ You can’t claim asylum

➡️ You can’t benefit from our modern slavery protections

➡️ You can’t make spurious human rights claims

➡️ You can’t stay

Wow. Big powerful Twitter graphics, warning of real legal consequences, done by Sunak himself.

Sunak is attacking the business model for illegal immigration, through disincentives to immigrate illegally, rather than just saying he's going to step up enforcement, or asking illegal migrants not to come, or using some of the other ineffective tools that thus far not had much effect, given the propensity of leftwing lawyers to get around the law and find loopholes, as well as the slatternly European Union system that makes illegal migration generally so easy for vast human smuggling cartels to take advantage of.

Wish we could do that in this country if only to see the wailing and weeping by the usual suspects, it would be epic.

This is a weak copy of what Australia has had in place for nearly 25 years now.

I would point out two things

1. Rishi’s method would work better for the USA — the illegal immigrants to the UK are not, generally, seasonal workers who come, work and go back and then come back again. The USA has a lot of those

2. However the USA needs a better guest worker system — the two things go hand in hand —> imagine if Mexicans and Central Americans get a clear path “go here and apply for seasonal work. Supplement your income and do it all legally - no paying middle men, no dangerous travels etc” — and at the same time we use the stick to prevent people using illegal means.

We have similar immigration laws in the USA.

They are rarely enforced.

From memory - USA law, first illegal entry offense, five year ban, arrest and federal imprisonment if in the USA before five year ban expires.

USA, second offense - 10 year ban. Third offense - permanent ban.

Cronos - the USA has 300,000 legal foreign farm workers every year.

The ONLY illegal farm workers are people who have previously been arrested in the USA and cannot get a work visa.

Can’t wait for the left to call him racist. Oh wait, that’s only for white people who support fair and equal enforcement of immigration laws.

RE: imagine if Mexicans and Central Americans get a clear path “go here and apply for seasonal work.

We used to have a program like what you just described when Eisenhower was President. It was called the BRACERO PROGRAM.

What ever happened to that? It was quite successful then.

I didn’t know about the Bracero program - but see it has an entry on wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bracero_Program#Aftermath

https://migration.ucdavis.edu/rmn/more.php?id=10

The Department of Labor continued to try to get more pro-worker regulations passed, however the only one that was written into law was the one guaranteeing U.S. workers the same benefits as the braceros, which was signed in 1961 by President Kennedy as an extension of Public Law 78. After signing, Kennedy said, “I am aware ... of the serious impact in Mexico if many thousands of workers employed in this country were summarily deprived of this much-needed employment.” Thereupon, bracero employment plummeted; going from 437,000 workers in 1959 to 186,000 in 1963.[9]

During a 1963 debate over extension, the House of Representatives rejected an extension of the program. However, the Senate approved an extension that required U.S. workers to receive the same non-wage benefits as braceros. The House responded with a final one-year extension of the program without the non-wage benefits, and the Bracero Program saw its demise in 1964.
