UNC Pediatric Medicine goes woke: The University of North Carolina imposes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) throughout its medical system

The University of North Carolina imposes Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) throughout its medical system.  Last year, vice dean for DEI at the medical school, E. Nathan Thomas, declared, “We’re infusing DEI into the fabric of the School of Medicine and the institution.”  In 2021, UNC Health hired its first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at $126,000/year.  Neither employee holds a medical doctorate; both serve the UNC School of Medicine Health Executives Committee.

Executive Dean of the School of Medicine, Cristy Page, co-authored a paper about systemic racism in the healthcare workforce, which read like a wordsearch puzzle of woke jargon.  The paper concluded that merit would no longer be required for leadership positions, and all UNC employees would need unconscious bias training.

UNC Health compelled medical department heads to attend CRT-based racial equity training.  According to a detailed report by the organization Do No Harm, the UNC medical school paid nearly $100,000 for students to attend anti-racist workshops where they learned, “UNC was built on and profited from the seizure of indigenous land.”

Individual departments like Pediatrics or Radiology developed their own DEI action plans, with timelines to hold leaders accountable to DEI ideology.

The Department of Surgery plan includes, “Implementation of Social Justice Curriculum during Surgery Clerkship,” and “Holistic review of application for surgery residencies.”  I envision surgery resident candidates writing application essays entitled, “Abolition and Appendicitis: How Abdominal Pain Diagnosis Affects Systemic Change,” or, “I’m Marginalized; Hand Me the Scalpel.”

Fostering DEI disciples in graduate programs is a dangerous game.  This week a UNC law student was arrested and charged with domestic terrorism for participating in the Antifa attack on an Atlanta police training facility.  According to the Carolina Journal, the student (who is male but identifies as she/they) described himself as, “a white trans femme organizer in Charlotte who is fiercely committed to supporting Black trans femmes, prison abolition, and destabilizing all forms of oppression.”

I predict lawsuits for medical discrimination and denial of services based on race. An angry parent will eventually seek retribution against a medical provider for denying their child a life saving service.

Someone will be shot over this in the end!

In other words, when you are sitting in your child’s pediatrician’s office and you see UNC on their diploma, grab your child and LEAVE.

If only there were a way to drive them out of business.

So tired of this garbage.
Our local hospital, which is a training hospital for the nearby college med school, has a huge banner hanging outside the entrance: “Congratulations To Our Med School: Winner of the 2020 Excellence in Diversity Award.”
Gee, am I wrong to prefer that your med students were winning awards in, oh, I don’t know, “Excellence in Medical Care?”

Given that the UNC School of Medicine was paid to teach Laboratory Safety to the WUHAN Institute of Virology,

I have trouble taking them seriously on anything.

It’s politics, but it’s stupid politics... Excellence is out the window and trendy, political, feel good BS is invited in without the slightest thought of the consequences. That tells me people are mostly followers, even in, or especially in, academic and highly bureaucratic organizations. No responsibility, except for feel good selfishness and virtue performances. No thought just horseshit.

And after this abomination is over everybody will be saying the same thing Germans said after WWII: “I was never a Nazi.”

Affirmative action does not belong in medicine or aviation.
I could probably think of a few more places it doesn’t belong, but that would interfere with my reactionary posting.

It's not a new thing.

Probably at least 40 years ago now, my OB/GYN (an unreconstructed medico of the old school) was telling me about teaching a course at Emory Medical School.

The school tried to pressure him to pass certain students. Being the crusty old character that he was, he said, "Hell, no! They'll be out there killing somebody!"

They should have listened to him!

Everybody, time to self-identify as a four legged critter and see your vet.

My vet is the only medico I still trust.

I am here in New Hanover county - I am sure you are aware of the goat rodeo THAT medical situation has become.

My father was going to move here but opted out since that broke wide open - we all go to Duke now. Even in an emergency, we would take a chance and make the drive rather than try our chances here in Wilmington.

"diversity and equity" are words simply to hide that they will discriminate against the best candidates, the smartest, the most educated and the most able.....

you get what you pay for.....

I can’t think of many worse places to put DEI in place than the medical field. Do you want your life in the hands of the BEST doctors? Or do you want a doctor who was hired to fill a quota?

Same goes for ESG applied to investments - do you want your future retirement in a portfolio of investments, selected because the underlying portfolio is chock-full of companies that worship the ESG gods, or one that is affirmatively living up to their fiduciary responsibility to the investors in achieving the best returns? Do you want your investment capital going to corporations that want to use YOUR investment dollars to advance THEIR societal goals and aspirations?

This s#*! has got to stop.

yeah, there will only be a few players in the hospital field soon so you will have to take what you can get. had a nephew that woked new hanover as a travel nurse. he couldn’t wait to get out of there

Exactly.

How long will it be before an angry white person (especially if he or she is poor) shoots a doctor or nurse because because their spouse or child was denied care or killed because of the color of their skin.

(Look for them to have quotas on how many white babies are allowed to live; any born over that quota will be dropped in a bucket of water.)
