Mistrial declared in case of man charged with killing off-duty Pittsburgh police officer

The question was benign: How did you know the defendant?

But the answer from a witness — that she met Christian Bey when he moved in across the street after his release from prison — was enough to cause a mistrial.

Bey, 34, was on trial in connection with the shooting death of off-duty Pittsburgh police Officer Calvin Hall in July 2019.

Hall, 36, was shot on Monticello Street on July 14, 2019, following an argument with a group of people who lived there. Police said Hall had walked away when Bey, whose mother was among the people fighting with Hall, shot him three times in the back.

Hall died three days later.

Now, a new jury must be selected along with a new trial. The parties will start picking a new jury in the case on Thursday, with opening statements slated to start March 21

I have noticed a lot of articles written like that. Are they AI generated, or is the author simply trying to tell the story without acknowledging facts the politically correct have deemed inappropriate. It’s like they are trying to tell the story without telling the story.

Probably because the witness indicated prior felony convictions by saying “when he was released from prison.”

Dumbasses should have a hung a charge of felon in possession of a firearm on him, too. That gets the defense to stipulate that the perp has a previous felony record.

Probably just stalling. This guy’s gonna die in prison, with a bit of luck. Hanging out in a municipal jail and going through the trial is probably the mist entertainment he can look forward to for some time.

At the same time, testimony is not supposed to be rehearsed, correct?

Can’t taint the jury with an accurate story of what happened ya know.

the witness said he had been released from prison. So that taints the jury because they now know some of his criminal history.

You see, it is about CRIMINAL justice.

Death penalty take of the table. Cold blooded murder of a man walking away, nearly 4 years in the making and to say the guy has been in prison before stops the trial? So Jurors can’t ignore facts that may prejudice them, but the Judge can?

It is time to have about 1,000 Judge Roy Beans. If you kill and cannot prove it was an accident, you should die within the month after arrest. PERIOD. If it was an accident, keep the trials at a slower pace. The left says we are NOTHING BUT ANIMALS, so treat criminals like the animals they are. Put them out of OUR misery. Like the Texas Rangers would say, “settle ‘em down”.
