If Putin was even a tiny bit serious about helping African and other hungry countries, they would immediately agree to a plan to withdraw, so both Russia and Ukraine can get the spring planting. Are either Ukraine or Russia actually going to get adequate amount of planting done with Ukraine being bombed, and Putin chasing his young men out of the country or sending them to the front to get killed?

If Putin refuses to leave, perhaps Xi can pursuade him to agree not to bomb agricultural lands and equipment depots in Ukraine if Ukraine agrees not to position military assets in designated agricultural areas, and to not target against Russian agriculture that is not near military assets.

Does anyone have information on how much of Russian and Ukrainian export agriculture is going to be reduced this year compared with 2022? I would think Xi would also have concerns regarding the availability of enough world market grain to feed his people the pork and chicken they have come to expect and need for military health.

Wonderful idea. Who can talk to Xi? Biden can’t. Is there an African leader or two who could? Zelensky wants to talk with Xi but would Xi take him seriously? I don’t know. Xi wouldn’t want to upset putin.

If Biden’s America was even a tiny bit serious about helping African and other hungry countries, they would immediately agree to a plan to withdraw American interference, support, and weapons from Ukraine, so both Russia and Ukraine can get the spring planting.

Africa as a whole includes very rich agricultural areas. Some countries like Namibia are not overly blessed with the best lands for cultivation. Still, one should not think of Africa as unable to generate its own food surpluses. As always, African governments that push “land reform” and the expropriation of successful farms are not doing any favors for agricultural production.
