McGee was placed in a wheelchair and pushed to the front of the airport, believing she was in the process of rebooking her flight. Once outside, officers handcuffed her and took her to the Travis County Jail on suspicion of trespassing. "All I did was stand up and then they were all around me," McGee said. "And I don't remember them saying anything to me, or even to each other."

At the jail, McGee said, she was shoved against a wall as officers stripped off her clothes, and she screamed, "Not my ring!" when officers began to remove it. She said an officer then told her something she did not understand, she asked, "What?" and in response a different officer twisted her handcuffs with enough force to break her arm.

If the facts are as related I hope she sues the city and each individual police officer responsible for her false arrest, physical abuse, injury and their failure to provide medical treatment.

And throw in lawsuits against the airline, the airport and the idiot employee who sicced the police on her to begin with.

This is one case where very high cash judgements against everyone involved wouldn’t bother me a bit.

Yea but it's going to be the taxpayers footing the bill. :(

Horrible! I have hearing loss, so I wear hearing aids. Public places are so noisy and I have a hard time hearing people. I hope she does sue them and win a nice settlement! And keeping her in jail with a broken arm!

My ninety-five-year-old mother was on her way from Tampa to Tallahassee for a visit. She was moving too slowly for the TSA agent so he shoved her. She went down instantly. Fortunately, she didn’t break anything, which was a miracle. She refused to fly after that. For subsequent visits I hired a limo. It cost slightly more than the airline tickets for two.

As far as breaking bones with handcuffs, an unpleasant cop retiree I know told a story with great relish about doing the same thing on purpose. We were in a group, and I looked around at the other listeners. Later I said to a friend who had heard him tell the story, “You know, if I’d done something like that, I’d never tell a soul.” He said, “That’s because you aren’t a retired evil bastard.”

Instead of just requiring police to establish that there are no communication issues, McGee's attaorney is demanding that all arrested individuals should be provided an attorney immediately on entering jail.

Webber said that McGee's ordeal could have been avoided if the city would commit to guaranteeing free defense attorneys to people when they are brought to the jail, a process known as "counsel at first appearance," or CAFA. "If Travis County and the city of Austin had instituted counsel at first appearance, every single person involved would have realized that Karen McGee does not belong in jail," Webber said. "This case, in my opinion, is Exhibit A for why Travis County and the city need to stop saying they can't put CAFA in place."

The left always is the most harsh.

Not a right or left issue but an issue with bad cops.

Remember this case?

When this woman and her lawyers get through with the city of Austin, she should be able to afford a private jet to visit her relatives in Seattle whenever she wants too. She should not be concerned about carbon emissions either. She can tell the tree-huggers to put the carbon on Al Gores account.

She's White, so it's okay.

Police, in general, have lost a temendous amount of respect these last 3 years.

I don’t understand why Florida didn’t file charges against the jailer.

It’s hard to believe that the second ticket agent called the police on her. Was she unruly? It sounds like a simple miscommunication led to this whole ordeal.

Austin taxpayers. It’s the Portland of Texas. Same Leftists goons who persecuted and convicted Tom DeLay for political reasons. Hope she gets them for $1 billion and bankrupts that pit.

The guy has an agenda, and he is going to stick to it.

Police everywhere should be trained on how to communicate with people who can’t hear well. Hearings aids do not work as well as ears, so just because a person has them doesn’t mean his hearing is back to normal.

Many years ago, there were cases of students at Gaulladet University being killed by police due to lack of communications.

Films and TV shows showing deaf people understanding without seeing the speaker’s face are not helpful!!!!!

No. It is not okay no matter the color of the person's skin.

Lawsuit? If the story as published is accurate, the three thugs with badges and the asshole that called them belong in PRISON for Felony Kidnapping, then they deserve to be Asset Stripped to the clothes on their backs. Unfortunately with the Legal Fiction that the Supreme Court CREATED OUT OF THIN AIR called “Qualified Immunity”, will only make the Taxpayers Pay.
