You need to understand that part of the obsession is rooted in their fundamental belief that the planet can only sustain itself with a human population of about a half billion.
A few will argue that perhaps the number is as high as four billion due to technological advances (which, ironically, in their demented minds have nothing to do with capitalism) but people need to be removed from the gene pool.
Elevating homosexuality and transgenderism are two useful tools to do exactly that. Offending nature's God is an additional bonus to them.
