A tractor-trailer caught fire in Richmond, Indiana, and spread to a plastics facility
More than 2,000 people within a half-mile radius were asked to evacuate
A huge plume of toxic black smoke was visible from more than 20 miles away
An enormous inferno at a plastic manufacturing facility in Indiana sent a huge plume of toxic black smoke into the sky as more than 2,000 residents were ordered to evacuate their homes.
The blaze, which is expected to keep burning for days, was caused by a tractor-trailer truck that caught fire, which in turn set alight a nearby building that was storing plastic and recycled materials.
The fire broke out at around 2.40pm on Tuesday in Richmond, between Indianapolis and Dayton, and engulfed the entire facility and the cloud of black smoke was visible from more than 20 miles away.
A warning from Wayne County Emergency Management issued just before 4pm ordered the evacuation of people within half a mile of the fire.
Those downwind of the fire to the east and northeast outside the half a mile radius were ordered to shelter in place. 'Turn off HVAC units, keep windows and doors closed, and bring pets inside until advised further,' read the warning.

Was the truck a Tesla?
Good question.
Recycling doesn’t ALWAYS help da planet. LOL.
It’s fine. Air is fine.
was there not any fire suppression systems installed?
Apparently the recycling facility (”Hoffco”) closed in 2009...the plastic not removed at that time?? Strange.

Great! I have to drive near there this weekend. Hope is gone by then, but there will likely be some travel repercussions because of this.
At the very least the “Welcome Inn Bar & Grill” will probably be closed for awhile:

East Palestine 2.0.
It’s probably stored outside because plastic that rots gives off deadly fumes.
Times I have thought “we all had to give up regular engines and have them tunes to the curtailments of catalytic converters and submit to other restrictions for the “environment.”
Then when I see a truck or car spewing heavy smoke and no cop gives them a ticket.
and
in the Sadam Hussein war he burned hours and hours of black oil well smoke as spiteful gesture against his enemies
and
fires like these throw huge amounts of blacks smoke into the air.
Lifetimes of our sacrifices are thrown away with a few minutes of these.
I’m sure.
I will say though, when I was a teenager, a gas station just down the road from us caught fire. It took the fire department with every truck over 3 hours to put it out. There was one explosion after another of oil cans in the garage where they serviced the cars (very old school mom n pop type of place).
We got lucky that the wind was blowing away from our house. We didn’t have to evacuate. We lived 2 blocks away from it.
Now, I realize this fire is much worse and more toxic, but I hope that the businesses and families affected will be back on their feet in no time.
Closed in 2009?
Insurance fire.

Interesting that since the democrats have been in control, one environmental disaster after another keeps happening.
What a coincidence.......
That’s better than a huge pile of tires any day!
Good question - and was the factory making plastic containers for food processing plants?
The fbi is at it again.
