I’m not sure that his main motive was boredom, although it could have been. The “anti-war” mention in the article might have had more to do with it.

But there was a time, when some Air Guard airmen came to my National Guard combat engineer unit for a day. They talked about getting away from their boredom. We were only doing regular maintenance tasks. What they saw as exciting pretty toys, *snap* (formation, shiny boots, uniforms, the way we talked, etc.) was the sleepiest same-old, same-old for us.

Airmen have great work to do with useful technical applications elsewhere. They should appreciate that more. Anything gets old, if you do it long enough.

“did someone from the WH leak it to this group”

I apologize for the sarcasm but...how in the hell else did it get to these kids?

This happened before you all know. It was when Rumsfeld was in. They pulled a stunt just about like this.

Moreover..it has to be realized, and you I and others already know this, that the US Government has become a vast criminal enterprise.

When did it start is the question.

I say during the early 1900s. Got really going after WW2 after the military industrial complex found out that there was money to be made in killing, And now, it has spread to all branches of government where Kickbacks, Bribes and Extortion is the norm...the tax system is extortion for example.

Here’s the question - is this kid’s info more confidential than Bradley Manning’s? Because Manning spent under 10 years in prison.

https://about.clearancejobs.com/resources/security-clearance-timeline
“In 1972 the responsibility for Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, and DoD contractor security clearance investigations was transferred to the newly created Defense Investigative Service (DIS). However, security clearance adjudications continued to be performed in several thousand locations across DoD, and there were significant inconsistencies in adjudicative decisions. DoD eventually consolidated these offices into 18 DoD Central Adjudication Facilities (CAFs). This was later reduced to 9 DoD CAFs. In December 1979 DoD Regulation 5200.2-R, Personnel Security Program, was issued, and for the first time, most of the elements of personnel security were standardized throughout DoD. In 1981 the first formal Adjudicative Guidelines were established and incorporated into DoD 5200.2-R.”

“DOD to Take Over Background Checks by Fiscal 2020”
By Oct. 1, it’s expected that every security clearance investigation will be conducted by a newly created DOD agency called the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency. The DCSA will be formed from the existing Defense Security Services, already part of DOD, and the existing National Background Investigations Bureau, which is part of OPM.

As part of that changeover, National Background Investigations Bureau employees will become DOD employees, though they will remain working in the same location, and in almost every case, continue under their current chains of command.

Why was some random 21 year-old in Massachusetts given access to these top secret documents? That makes no sense.

Huh? That isn’t a big deal actually. If his job requires access to an JWICS box, then it’s quite normal. The bigger issue is, and this started happening in the 1990s, is too many people have clearances up to TS because of convenience rather than need-to-know. It is too much of a pain to segregate the intelligence work force from secret to top secret: so they just dish out TS clearances to everyone— to include the travel clerks, administration, human resources, etc.

When you release top secret documents and get a feeble sentence with minimal incarceration, instead of the death penalty. And then you turn yourself into a women and become a celebrity and a ‘reality’ star... That is not ‘reality’... That is dystopia and that is now our reality... We now live in a dystopian world.

Here is the criteria for promotion to E-4. And this is for active Air Force so it may be tougher for Air National Guard.

To be promoted to Senior Airman E-4, Airmen first class must have 3 years of time in service (TIS) and 20 months of time in grade (TIG) or 36 months of TIS and 20 months of TIG. One must demonstrate the necessary military experience and leadership skills, which corresponds to being a good example for others to follow.

Wow, that is a slow process, it is faster in the Army and Marines during wartime, especially the big wars.

His MOS was in military intelligence - if you had any clue about how the military works or had even read the article you would not ask such questions.

His AFSC was 3D1X2 (Cyber Transport Systems).

Anyway, you were talking about having a clue?

His AFSC was 3D1X2 (Cyber Transport Systems).

Which is an MOS of Airforce Military Intelligence. There are different MOSs falling under the same branch.

No, it isn't. It is an Information Technology AFSC. Intel AFSCs start with a 1.

Inability to admit that you are wrong and lashing out at others is an awful personality trait.
