The U.S. military could not achieve victory in a war with China using its current, all-volunteer force, according to one expert.
The United States will thus need to radically transform its force structure to better contend with the emerging threat environment, up to and including by reinstating conscription, said Jonathan Askonas, an assistant professor of Politics at Catholic University of America.
“This is a five-alarm fire,” Askonas said during an April 11 discussion with the Hudson Institute think tank. “We’re facing global threats and we have a force structure which we know will not work against those threats.
“We basically can’t fight a war larger than Iraq with the all-volunteer force.”
The all-volunteer force has been a staple of U.S. military organization since 1973, when the draft was terminated along with the United States’ direct involvement in the Vietnam War.
Unfortunately, Askonas said, the all-volunteer force was proving incapable of generating the number of service members required for a war between great powers, and its burdensome logistical processes were likely to be ineffective in either a conflict with China in the Indo-Pacific theater or supporting European powers against Russia.

Oh I don't know about that. Convince them that the enemy is a racist homophobe, they will demand a draft, and volunteer for the new version of the "American Protection League", going around and asking to see peoples draft registration cards, like they did during WWI.
I cannot imagine what would happen if you tried to draft these snowflakes. They break down if you send back a botched food order.

We, IMHO, have ZERO chance of winning a war against China. We have no production. We have a narcotic ridden society. We don’t have a youth that is capable. We no longer train marksman, we train people in gender. Their is no battlefield mentality, and IQ have precipitously dropped here in the US.
I am a little stunned, with Joe Biden in their back pocket, they haven’t gone an invaded Taiwan already. I think the Ukraine war gave them pause.
I don’t think so. Nobody who had their child wearing a face diaper during the COVID fiasco is ever going to let that kid even VOLUNTEER for the military — let alone get drafted.
That said, I would not be surprised if our new Chinese overlords levied a draft on personnel from their new American colonies once they've cemented control. I doubt their drill instructors will be able to read stress cards printed in English.
